World Cup match 41 West Indies vs UAE; WI in QFs unless there is a tie in the Ireland-Pakistan game: West Indies played UAE at Napier for a chance to enter the QFs. There are 2 spots in Group B with 3 teams vying for it.

West Indies won the toss and put UAE into bat. The West Indies bowlers stormed the UAE batting lineup with some serious pace and short bowling. UAE was 46/6 in 14 overs with captain Jason Holder taking 4 wickets and Jerome Taylor taking 2 wickets. late in the line-up, all-rounder Amjad Javed and Nasir Aziz got together and added 114 runs for the 8th wicket. Amjad Javed made 56 and Nasir Aziz made 60 runs helping UAE to 175 runs in 47.4 overs.

The West Indian bowlers were super impressive in a match they knew they needed to win in an impressive manner. Jason Holder took 4/27 and Jerome Holder took 3/36 with Andre Russell helped by taking 2/20. The West Indian bowlers were clinical in their execution not relieving the pressure on the UAE batsmen until Javed and Aziz came through. Holder and Taylor bombarded the UAE top order with short ball at high speed, something UAE would not have expected to face.

The West Indian reply with the bat starred Johnston Charles hitting 55 off 40 balls and Jonathan Carter hit 50 runs. In the end Denesh Ramdin (33) joined Jonathan Carter in taking West Indies to win with 6 wickets in hand and 19.3 overs remaining.

The UAE bowling tried their best in trying to keep the inevitable from happening with Amjad Javed  taking 2/29 and Majula Guruge taking 2/40. This match ends UAE’s second stint at the World Cup cricket, they were impressive with players like Shaiman Anwar and Amjad Javed shining brightly with ball and bat. Anwar was the highest scorer in World Cup at one time, a big achievement for a player from an associate nation.

West Indies have done their bit and have qualified for the QFs unless the match between Ireland and Pakistan is tie.
