The third day of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final between India and New Zealand has already been filled with a lot of action. After the Virat Kohli-led side battled it out on the second day to 146/3 in 64.4 overs, the Kiwi bowlers came storming back on the third morning. They nipped out wickets at regular intervals and bundled India out for just 217 runs soon after the lunch break.

It was a combination of some exceptional swing bowling from New Zealand with discipline and India’s batsmen getting bogged down a bit while throwing away their wicket at times as well. However, what was more disappointing was India’s tail not wagging at all. After lunch, they lost their last three wickets for just six runs and in 3.1 overs.

Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja were the last three batsmen to be dismissed and certainly, the fans weren’t happy to see them getting out soon. It was expected that the tail will wag and India will somehow get close to the 250-run mark which is told to be more than a competitive total in testing conditions.

Kyle Jamieson stars for New Zealand

Kyle Jamieson was the wrecker-in-chief picking up his fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He made sure that the likes of Ishant and Bumrah didn’t hang around a lot. India lost their last four wickets for just 12 runs and it was not expected at all. When the day started, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were expected to take India past 300 in their first innings.

However, that wasn’t to be as the Indian skipper got out without adding to his overnight score and the team never looked settled with the bat on the day. Coming back to India’s tail, there were hopes when Ravi Ashwin and Jadeja stitched a partnership of 23 runs with the former scoring 22 out of it. But it all ended pretty quickly for them. It was surprising for Jadeja to not farm the strike and showing any intent of scoring runs quickly.

The fans were expectedly not happy with India’s tail not sticking around in an era when other teams are improving in that aspect considerably.
