Team India wicket-keeper in the longest format, Wriddhiman Saha said that they won’t take Bangladesh lightly in the one-off test in Hyderabad starting on 9th February. Even after resounding victories by 3-0 and 4-0 margin against New Zealand and England respectively, the statement from Saha will surely act a boost for the Bangladesh camp going into the historic Test. This will be the first time Bangladesh will play a Test match on Indian soil in their 18 years Test history.

“Ranking-wise one may think they will be easier opponents on paper. But we cannot underestimate them before taking on to the field. It all depends on the situation on a given day. We have to approach the situation accordingly,” Saha was quoted as saying by the Times of India before leaving for Hyderabad to join the rest of the team for the one-off Test. Despite their success in recent times, Saha said that they will start from scratch against Bangladesh.

“Everyone wants do well on the field. You may not do what you think. It’s about converting your thoughts into a good performance,” he added. The one-off Test will be followed by a 4 match Test series against the Australians but Saha that he will be looking to take one game at a time.

“I don’t know when are the Aussies coming but as of now, the focus is on Bangladesh Test. After they’re here we will think about it,” he said.

After scoring a brilliant match-winning double century for Rest of India against Gujarat in the Irani Trophy encounter, Saha guided Bengal to the top of the East Zone in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. “It’s difficult to be consistent in Twenty20 format. But we have done well in all the three — bowling, batting and fielding — departments of the game. It’s an outstanding show,” said Saha about his team’s performance in the tournament. He also concluded by saying that switching from T20 to test format won’t be a difficulty for him.

“It’s all about the mindset and the right ball to choose. Having played for so many years, it would not be an issue. Now it’s time to shift focus to Test format, it would not be a problem though. I will think after reaching there tomorrow morning. My approach remains the same,” Saha concluded.
