The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has turned down the apology given by veteran batsman Younis Khan. Younis had apologised for his misbehavior and breach in conduct to the PCB chief Shaharyar Khan.

He who was leading the Khyber Pakhtunwala side in the Pakistan Cup had left the tournament after playing just 2 games. He had an altercation with the on-field umpire following which the match referee summoned him for a disciplinary hearing. The skipper did not turn up for the hearing. This did not go well with the board and the PCB source then quoted, “The PCB Chairman, Shaharyar Khan has taken serious notice of the incidents involving Younis and has summoned a report from the match referee.”

Younis then called up the PCB chief to apologize for his actions and even showed interest in making a comeback to the domestic tournament, Pakistan Cup. “Younis Khan made telephonic contact with chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan today,” the PCB said in a statement.

Now the PCB has issued a show-cause notice the batsman and has barred him from playing in the tournament again. PCB made it clear that no one is bigger than the game.

“Younis has been a great servant of Pakistan cricket and a true role model for youngsters,” the PCB chairman quoted. “I feel pained making this decision as we have to demonstrate that no one is bigger than the game. We will wait for Younis to respond before we proceed further in this matter,” PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan added.

“The chairman clarified that while we have all regards for Younis, who has served the country with honour, he would follow the process dealing with such situation as stipulated in the relevant rules,” the PCB said in a statement. The veteran batsman was found to have violated a series of rules depending on which actions will be taken against him.

The position with regard to Younis Khan is as follows:

(a) In accepting the recommendations of the match referee, a fine of 50% of his match fee has been imposed.

(b) For breaching the following clauses of his central contract, a show cause notice has been issued to Younis Khan to explain his position to the board within seven days: clauses 2.2.1 (c), 2.2.2, 2.2.5 and 2.2.8 and breaches No. 17 and 20 of schedule 5 of the central contract.

(c) In light of the above pending disciplinary proceedings and due to the fact that a replacement player has already been added to the KPK Team, it has been decided, in the interest of the game, not to allow Younis to rejoin the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team in the Pakistan Cup.
