Sourav Ganguly knows a thing or two about comebacks. The former skipper was lurched into the wilderness in 2005 but was strong enough to make a memorable comeback after spending almost a year out of the Indian squad. He reckoned that his former teammate Yuvraj Singh isn’t a finished product yet and backed him to make a comeback.

Rotating spinners a good move says Ganguly

The former captain lauded the selectors’ decision to rotate the spinners ahead of the World Cup. The five wise men ‘rested’ Ashwin and Jadeja for the second consecutive series thereby giving an extended run to the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. After the failure of Ashwin and Jadeja in England earlier in the year, the Indian think tank is looking to invest on wrist spinners for white-ball cricket.

“It’s the selectors’ decision. It is good to test youngsters ahead of the World Cup,” Ganguly told reporters on the sidelines of a music launch.

While Ashwin is plying his trade in the County Championship, Jadeja was disappointed for his exclusion and expressed it on his Twitter account. Both are now seen as Test specialists and Kohli want to keep them fresh ahead of the packed Test season next year. on Yuvraj’s playing future, the former southpaw said: “He isn’t finished. Nothing is over till it’s actually over.”

Ganguly tips India to defeat Australia

Ganguly remarked that the series against Australia won’t be a whitewash as the visiting side is a decent one though he picked India as favorites for the series. The 5-match series kicks off in Chennai on Sunday. “At home, India will be tough to beat. 5-0 won’t happen as Australia are a good team.”

India are scheduled to play a fair number of ODIs at home in the coming months and they are prepared to experiment with their playing combination in order to identify the best one going forward. Indian coach Ravi Shastri has also warned every player to keep pushing their fitness standard to the north if they want a permanence in the limited overs squad.
