The wrong’un is an integral part of the leg-spinner’s repertoire but is a tough art to master. It’s a difficult delivery to read for the batsmen as well. The likes of Rashid Khan and others have been prime examples of bowling the masterful delivery. The Indian team also boasts of a couple of bowlers, who have the variation, one of them is Yuzvendra Chahal, the Haryana-born leg-spinner.

He made his debut in 2016 and has made the limited-overs formats, ODI and T20Is, his very own. Apart from being a prolific wicket-taker, Chahal also manages to keep the runs down and build pressure on the opposition. He has a wide range of deliveries, which can be hard to gauge. Recently, he revealed that he has a couple of variations while also reckoning leg-spinners have a wider variety of skills than left-armers.

“Every tour is important for us”- Chahal on the UK tour

“I have two googlies — one closer to the head and one more side-arm. So I try to mix it up. Batsmen have to look at the head position, so it is an advantage for me. For example, a left-arm spinner can have only two variations, but a leg-spinner has at least four variations, so the batsmen are always thinking about what he is going to face next,” Chahal was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

Chahal is currently the third-ranked bowler in T20Is and his next assignment will be the two-match T20I series versus Ireland at the Malahide Cricket Ground in Dublin. He has also been included in the T20I and ODI squad for India’s tour of England next month where he is touted to be a vital cog in their setup. The tweaker also found the weather in the UK similar to that of the Indian sub-continent.

“Every tour is important for us, but for me especially this is an important one because I have come here for the first time, whether it is Ireland or England. Yesterday, I bowled in the nets in London and the weather was hot, almost same as in the sub-continent,” he added.
