12 Interesting facts about Vikram Solanki that you need to know: Vikram Singh Solanki is a former English cricketer who was known for his elegant and classical batting. His magnificent strokes were aided by his supple wrists with which he pierced the gaps on the on-side and off-side at will. Though, his trademark wristy drives and effortless flicks had a different level of awesomeness written over it which made him a class apart.

Solanki’s international career spanned for 7 years in which he represented the three lions in 51 ODIs. Solanki stroked 1,097 runs at an average of 26.75 with 2 centuries and 5 half-centuries which were way poor if we consider his meticulous talents. He also featured in 3 T20Is and scored 76 runs.

1. He was born on 1 April, 1976 in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. Solanki is a right-handed batsman. He along with his family moved to Wolverhampton at a tender age of eight.

2. Vikram Solanki was a youth superstar for Wolverhampton’s junior and senior clubs.

3. He made his First-Class debut for Worcestershire in 1995 and impressed everyone with his majestic repertoire of strokes and was perceived as the next big thing in English county cricket. Vikram represented Worcestershire for 17 years.

4. Solanki and Kabir Ali have been team-mates for both Worcestershire and Rajasthan.

5. He made his ODI debut against South Africa in 2000 though his maiden ODI ton came against the same side but 3 years later at the Oval in which he played as an opener and added 200 runs with Marcus Trescothick, highest opening partnership by English openers in ODI cricket.

6. In 2005, Solanki became the first cricketer to be the super substitute in ODI cricket. As per the rule, the 12th man in a ODI could replace any player at any point of time to take up the bowling, batting or wicket-keeping responsibility.

7. In 2006 against Sri Lanka came Solanki’s first wicket as well as the last international wicket when he dismissed Sri Lankan southpaw Sanath Jayasuriya for 152 runs.

8. Though he represented the English side in ODI cricket and T20Is but didn’t get the opportunity to play in the whites for England.

9. Solanki also participated in Indian Cricket League (ICL) in 2007, and played 6 matches for the Mumbai Champs in his lone season of ICL.

10. In 2009, Vikram was elected as the chairman of the Professional Cricketers Association.

11. At the age of 36, Solanki signed a two-year contract with Surrey in July 2012.

12. Recently, he retired from professional cricket and ended up with tally of 18,359 runs in First-Class cricket and 11,045 runs in List-A cricket. He scored 1,752 runs in T20 cricket as well.
