2. IPL spot-fixing

This could be the biggest controversy in Dhoni’s career and the one he would have least wished to be linked with. The ill-famed 2013 spot-fixing saga opened an unwanted chapter in the life of the franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
The CSK owner N Srinivasan’s son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyyapan was questioned for being allegedly linked with bookies. This resulted in the CSK captain, Dhoni, also being thoroughly questioned, and was also inculpated by one of the lawyers for being dishonest.
The same year, three Rajasthan Royal (RR) players, S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan, were also charged for allegedly partaking in spot-fixing, resulting in a ban from the game. Consequently, the two teams, CSK and RR were suspended from the IPL for two seasons between 2016 to 2017.
