Alex Hales has played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in IPL 2018 when David Warner was banned for his role in the ball-tampering scandal. However, his weakness against spin on turning and slow surfaces were exposed by other teams and he couldn’t sustain a regular place in the team for the long run.

Hales, who boasts of a brilliant T20 record of 6174 runs in 228 matches with the best score of 116* at a strike rate of 142.06, has not been able to hold onto his place in IPL despite his big-hitting credentials. The tall opener is brilliant on pitches with bounce and pace in it as he can stand and deliver, but has had his battles with turning surfaces.

This BBL can be a chance for him to impress the IPL franchises with his improved game, given that he had some extended time to prepare after being suspended from the England team before the World Cup due to recreational drug use. A huge haul of runs and a good performance against some quality spinners may get him a lucrative contract in IPL 2020, as teams look forward to the new decade of the league.
