Munro was signed on by the Delhi Daredevils (DD) following his unbelievable form in the T20 format for New Zealand. In January 2018, he became the first cricketer to score three centuries in T20Is.

However, Munro was well below average in the IPL. Firstly, he was under-exploited by his side and was given only 5 matches to play in the entire tournament following DD&#8217;s miserable outing in the tournament. The 31-year-old failed to impress as he mustered merely 63 runs at a dismal average of 12.60 in the season. Alex Hales sports solid T20 figures with 4852 runs in the 180 T20s that he&#8217;s played in his career thus far. However, 2018 hasn&#8217;t exactly been his year. Be it the Pakistan Super League (PSL) or the Trans-Tasman T20 Trophy earlier this year, his batting average had been hovering around 18-20 and didn&#8217;t improve much in the IPL either. Adding to his woes, Hales was benched for the first seven matches of the IPL, making it difficult for him to prove his worth.

Playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Hales made a successful IPL debut against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) as he opened the innings for his team and scored 45 runs off 39 balls. In what can possibly be termed as the biggest let-down of the season, Kiwi star batsman Brendon McCullum royally disappointed the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team management for having invested their faith in him. Save his 43-run innings in RCB&#8217;s opening game against KKR, McCullum was only a shade of his true, feisty self and was an abject failure in the tournament.

As someone who has a healthy average of above 30 in the T20 format and is fondly remembered by all as the first man to hit a century in the history of the IPL, McCullum could only score 127 runs in the 6 games that he got to play in the 2018 edition of the IPL before he was shown the bench. Once again an under-used player, Short was expected by one and all to be the solution to RR&#8217;s top order woes as he&#8217;d already smashed 523 runs in just 9 games in the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/bbl-big-bash-league/" rel="noopener">Big Bash League (BBL)</a> before coming over to India.

But things didn&#8217;t quite go according to plan. In the 7 matches that he played for RR in IPL 2018, Short accrued a paltry total of 115 runs at a strike rate of 116.16, which is hardly sufficient in a tournament as ruthless and fast-paced as the IPL. His highlight innings of the season was against DD, where he scored 44 runs off 25 balls, with 2 boundaries and 4 sixes in the proceedings.
