5 Players whose careers dipped after joining RCB

The IPL has been a terrific platform for the young cricketing talents to showcase their skills at the higher level of the game. Over the years, the tournament has produced many talents to the international circuit and the current Indian stars like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and many more also came into public limelight after some stunning performances for their respective IPL franchises.

The cash-rich league is not same for all the players as some of the players dazzled in a respective season and then vanished due to their poor show in the subsequent seasons. Players like Paul Valthaty, Swapnil Asnodkar and many more came, conquered and eventually disappeared in the star-studded affair.

The Bangalore-based franchise is one of the most celebrated franchises in IPL history. Despite having no trophies to their name, their fanbase has remained loyal to them. They had groomed many young talents in the past years and have given chances to some young talents in the league. Some of them reached heights and some were dropped after a couple of failures.

Here is a list of players whose careers ended after playing for RCB:

1. Manvinder Bisla

The former Knight Riders wicketkeeper-batsman played a match-winning inning of 89 from 48 balls against the Chennai Super Kings in the final of IPL 2012 and won the maiden IPL trophy to the franchise. He was also awarded as the Man of the Match that night. Due to his inconsistent performances in the following years, he was released by the franchise ahead of the 2015 players’ auction.

He was then bought by the Bangalore based franchise as they were searching for an opener to pair up with Chris Gayle. However, just after two games, he was dropped from the Playing XI and the skipper promoted himself and took over the opening duties. Thereafter, he was benched for the remainder of the season and was released by the franchise.

In 39 matches he played in IPL, Bisla scored 798 runs at an average of 21 and with a strike rate of 113.68 with the help of 4 half-centuries. Currently, the 35-year-old is no near to an IPL contract and is representing Goa in the domestic circuit.

2. Parvez Rasool

Parvez Rasool is the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to play in IPL. The bowling all-rounder made his IPL debut against Kolkata Knight Riders playing for Pune Warriors team back in 2013. After the franchise’s exit from the IPL, Rasool was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise and after playing for two years, he was traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of IPL 2016.

It was a dream come true moment for him as he dreamt of playing under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. He made into the XI in the first match itself and bowled an impressive spell of 1/31 and played a key role in the team’s triumph that night. But failed in the next three games by leaking runs and remained wicketless. So, he was benched for the rest of the season.

After that season, he was released by the franchise and the Jammu all-rounder found no buyers in the next auction. However, he played a single T20I against England later in 2017 and went off the radar. He still has plenty of cricket left in him and it will not be a surprise to see him in the IPL again.

3. Abu Nechim

Known for his lethal pace and accuracy, Abu Nechim made his IPL debut against the Chennai Super Kings back in 2010 playing for Mumbai Indians. He was with the Mumbai franchise up to 2013 and was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who were looking to strengthen their bowling attack ahead of IPL 2014.

In 2014, Nechim played 4 games for his new franchise and managed to take only 3 wickets and lacked consistency. In the next season, he conceded 59 runs in an innings against Mumbai Indians and it had become his last appearance in the cash-rich league.

In the next two seasons, Abu remained as a part of the Bangalore franchise but was seen carrying drinks and didn’t got a game under his belt. In 17 IPL matches he played, Nechim picked 12 wickets at an economy of 8.69. Currently, he is leading the Assam team in the domestic circuit and is hopeful of getting an IPL contract again.

4. Sreenath Aravind

The Karnataka’s left-arm pacer impressed one and all with his attacking line and length and earned an IPL contract with RCB in 2009. He didn’t get a chance to play and was released ahead of the next season. However, he was again bought by the Bangalore franchise ahead of IPL 2011 where he represented the team in 14 matches in the next two seasons and picked 21 wickets.

He was also named in the Indian T20 squad for the home series against England in 2011 but did not get a game in that series. He later was out due to injures and played his one and only international match against South Africa in 2015. Due to his impressive performance, he was named as the replacement for the injured Adam Milne in the RCB squad in 2015.

Aravind, with his match-winning performances, became an integral member of the squad and continued playing for the franchise for the next three years. In 38 games he played in the cash-rich league, Aravind picked 45 wickets at an economy of 8.2. He retired from all forms of the cricket in 2018 and was named as the Karnataka’s coach later that year.

5. Sachin Rana

The Haryana’s right-arm medium pacer came into the public limelight when he played for the Bangalore franchise in 2014. Playing for the Bangalore franchise, Rana scored 91 runs at an average of 22.75 and a strike rate of 112.35 in 10 matches.

Rana made his First-class debut at an age of 20 against Vidarbha and picked up 5 wickets in that game. His best performance in his career thus far has been his unbeaten 163 against Tripura, while playing for his state team.

Rana was a part of the Knight Riders in IPL 2009 but didn’t get a game to play. Then he moved on to Pune Warriors in 2011 where he made his IPL debut against his former team. In 2013, he was signed by the Sunrisers and was benched for the whole season. But in IPL 2014 IPL, he got to play 10 games for the franchise and the match against the Chennai Super Kings in 2014 became his last match in IPL.
