Before the first ball of the series has been bowled, the upcoming Australia-India Test series perhaps already has its man of the series though the individual is neither a player and nor even a grown-up individual. He is a six-year-old child named Archie Schiller – a cricket-crazy kid who has already undergone several surgeries to stay alive since he has a complicated heart condition. The kid was given a call by the Australian coach Justin Langer to be an honoured member of the Baggy Greens squad in the series.

Schiller’s enthusiasm for the game became even more prominent when he said during a conversation with Langer that he could dismiss Indian skipper Virat Kohli, the run machine against whom the home team is devising plans and strategies to slow down his scoring rate. Schiller was present at the Australian players’ practice session ahead of the first Test in Adelaide and he said he could make the 30-year-old ace batsman head to the pavilion by getting him with his leg spin.

Schiller, who was selected to be part of the Australian squad, was picked under Make A Wish Australia campaign and was given the whites.

Schiller has undergone 13 surgeries already

Schiller, in his short life so far, has experienced 13 surgeries to overcome his long-term heart ailment and had an open-heart procedure when he was only three. The kid who has a role model in spin wizard Shane Warne will also accompany the team for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne starting December 26. Australia on Wednesday came up with their playing XI led by Tim Paine and it overlooked Mitchell Marsh and roped in Peter Handscomb who made a Test comeback since March.

Kohli also had his moment as a bowler on this tour when he dismissed centurion Harry Nielsen of Cricket Australia XI in the practice game in Sydney last week. It was the cricketer’s fourth first-class wicket and his celebration after getting the scalp went viral online.
