AB de Villiers matches Sourav Ganguly after scoring 3 ODI centuries in a series as captain: AB de Villiers is on a record breaking spree these days. He continued his trend in the recently concluded Paytm Freedom ODI series against India. One such unique record he equalled was of the former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly.

De Viiliers repeated Sourav Ganguly’s feat of scoring three centuries as captain in a one day series. SC Ganguly led India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003 played in South Africa in 2003. During the tournament Dada scored one century against Namibia (112*) at Pietermaritzburg and two against Kenya at Cape Town (107*) and Durban (111*) respectively, one of which came during the group stages and another one in the all important semi-final match.

In the recently concluded 5-match bilateral ODI series against India, AB de Villiers, who was also leading his side, scored three centuries, thus emulating Ganguly. AB scored his first century of the series in the first match at Kanpur where he scored 104*, it was his innings that won South Africa the match.

His second ton of the series was in the 4th ODI at Chennai, where he beat the heat and cramps to dispatch the Indian bowlers all around the park and got his team very close to a win, but they could not overhaul the Indian total in the end and conceded the game.

ABD saved his best for the ultimate moment; the series final was played in Mumbai, he chose the right day and the right place to play the most characteristic knock. De Villiers was uncontrollable, for all the Indian bowlers and with the assistance of his fired 119 from just 98 balls the Proteas posted 438 on the scoreboard which ensured they won the match and the series quite comfortably.
