Adam Gilchrist may be as a good a commentator as he is a player, but today was one of those rare moments where he messed up while commentating for the Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Stars game in the seventh edition of the Big Bash League. The tournament began just yesterday and it was only the second game of the season.

With this game, a sensational young player made his debut for the Brisbane Heat. It was leg-spinner Shadab Khan who had an interesting debut. He went for 41 runs, being the most expensive with 10.25 runs per over but was able to do the damage as he picked two wickets. The successful dismissal of Glenn Maxwell and Luke Wright ensured that Brisbane gained control.

It was when Shadab conceded 13 runs in his very first over of the League that Gilchrist said, “Shadab Khan, welcome to the IPL.”

It often happens that commentators make errors on air since it is live, but this one in particular was a hilarious one. Twitter, as vigilant as it is, rose to point that out and Gilly was graceful and funny in accepting his mess-up as he replied to one of the tweets making a joke about it. He said, “Was never great at the alphabet!Apologies for the slip. Glad you’re watching our coverage though #BBL07 @tensporttv

Here is the tweet:

Eventually, the Heat went on to win the game by 15 runs. Cutting’s cameo of 35 off 18 balls, in the end, proved to be so crucial for his team. Marcus Stoinis‘s brilliant 51-ball 99 kept Melbourne in the game, as James Faulkner manoeuvred the strike at the other end to keep things moving.

However, Melbourne lost the game in the two overs leading up to the penultimate over, it has to be said, where only 17 runs in 12 balls hurt their chances. Stoinis was awarded the Man of the Match for his performance.
