Afghanistan will kick-start their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign against Scotland on Monday (October 25). The encounter takes place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium and both sides would be raring to cross the line. Unlike the previous ICC tournaments this decade, Afghanistan didn’t have to go through a qualifying round to make a place in the main ground. On the other hand, Scotland qualified for the Super 12 stage after clearing the preliminary round. Coming off three successive wins, the Scottish side might be confident. However, the Afghan side would possess a much more formidable challenge.
Head to Head record:
Meanwhile, Afghanistan are dominating Scotland in terms of head-to-head record in T20Is. These two teams have played 6 T20I matches so far and the Afghan side emerged victorious every single time. As far as T20 World Cups are concerned, these two teams have met only once and Afghanistan won that contest by 14 runs.

Top performers:
Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Shahzad boasts off an impressive record against Scotland. He has scored the most runs (309) in the clashes. Among active cricketers, the dasher is followed by Asghar Afghan (119) and Calum MacLeod (109). Among the active bowlers, Hamid Hassan has picked up the most wickets (10). He is followed by Mohammad Nabi (9).
T20 World Cup meeting:
As mentioned above, Afghanistan and Scotland have met only once in T20 World Cups before. That encounter took place at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur during the 2016 edition of the competition. Afghanistan elected to bat first after winning the toss and their players justified the decision. Mohammad Shahzad and skipper Asghar Afghan scored half-centuries as the Afghan side posted 171/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing the challenging target, Scotland got off to a flying start with openers George Munsey and kyle Koetzer adding 84 runs for the first wicket. Matt Machan played a decent knock among middle-order batters. However, the lack of contribution from other batters caused Scotland’s failure. They were restricted to 156/5, losing the game by 14 runs.
