One of the most reliable batsmen in the Indian team, Ajinkya Rahane celebrates his 29th birthday today. The star batsman is currently a part of the Indian team for the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy in England. While he wasn’t included in the XI for India’s first game on Sunday, Rahane is expected to play a part later into the tournament.
Rahane hasn’t had the best of numbers in ODI cricket but he is a phenomenal batsman in Test cricket. He is one of the mainstays of the Indian middle order and was recently appointed as the vice-captain of the side as well. Having made his Test debut in 2013, the elegant right-hander has won 37 Test caps for his country scoring 2580 runs at a healthy average of 46. He also has 8 centuries to his name in the longer format of the game.
ODIs have been a little tough for the 29-year old. After 73 games, 2237 runs at 32.42 don’t give justice to his talents. The think-tank has enormous trust in the abilities of Rahane. After missing out a couple of Tests due to an injury, he was straightaway brought back in the XI when he was deemed fit. He replaced Karun Nair in the XI, who scored a triple hundred in the last game, which speaks volumes about Rahane’s stature and position in the team.
He recently led India, in the absence of Kohli who was injured and won a crucial game for his side which culminated into a series win against Australia which concluded the busy home Test season for India. Rahane earned a lot of praises for his astute leadership in a pressure game.
The stylish batsman from Mumbai is on the way of becoming a batting great from India. We wish him a very happy birthday.
