Asia Cup 2025 Standings

The upcoming Asia Cup 2023 will serve as a dress rehearsal for five out of six teams as they prepare for the ODI World Cup that will be played in India in October-November. This edition of the Asia Cup will be played in the 50-over format, unlike the previous edition, which was a T20 affair.

The Asia Cup 2023 was initially scheduled to be exclusively hosted in Pakistan. However, India were reluctant to travel to Pakistan. Eventually, it was decided that Pakistan and Sri Lanka would co-host the event with India playing all their games in the island nation.

Six teams will take part in the tournament. They have been divided into two groups, with India, Pakistan, and Nepal in Group 1 whereas Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan slotted in Group 2. Apart from Nepal, the other five teams will be in action at the ODI World Cup later this year.

India are the most successful nation in the history of the tournament. They have won the Asia Cup title on seven occasions. Defending champions Sri Lanka are second on the list of teams with the most titles as they emerged victorious on six occasions. Pakistan are the only other country who have won the tournament. They triumphed in 2000 and 2012.

The six-team tournament kicks off with the first match being played between Pakistan and Nepal on August 30, in Multan, Pakistan. The big-ticket clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan will take place on September 2, in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Two teams will qualify from each of the two groups and they will have to face each other in the Super 4s stage, beginning September 6. After the completion of the Super 4s, the top two teams will play in the summit clash on September 17 in Colombo.

Notably, in Asia Cup Most Runs overall have been accumulated by former Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya. He scored 1220 runs in 25 matches. Virat Kohli has the chance to go past Jayasuriya in this year’s edition as he is just 188 runs adrift of the legendary left-handed batter’s tally.
