Former cricketer Pragyan Ojha has lashed out at the Australian media for targeting Team India ahead of the remaining two Tests of the ongoing four-match series. The former spinner has opined that India’s stunning victory in the second Test at the MCG has taken the Australians by surprise and their media is now trying to get under the skin of the Indian players.

In the lead up to the New Year’s Test, the Australian media has indeed been targeting the Indian camp constantly. It all started when five Indian players – Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Navdeep Saini and Rishabh Pant – went to a restaurant in Melbourne. Following the incident, the Australian media accused them of breaching the bio-secure bubble and also demanded an investigation.

Later, a few Australian newspapers stirred up unnecessary controversy, dragging Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya‘s names into it too. They brought up an old picture of the two stars visiting a shop in Australia to claim that they had breached the protocols during the limited-overs series. The allegations were unnecessary as well as startling as both Kohli and Pandya had left Australia last month.

Moreover, BCCI and Cricket Australia had not spoken about any possible breach either. The BCCI, on their part, have made it clear that the five Indian players did not breach the bio-secure bubble. The Indian cricket board, on Monday, also announced that all the players and staff members tested negative for COVID-19 after undergoing a test on Sunday. On Monday, the Indian team also left for Sydney for the upcoming third Test.

Pragyan Ojha slams Australians

As Australians keep targeting Team India, Pragyan Ojha has called them bad losers. Ojha said that Australia were not able to deal with the defeat they suffered at the hands of a depleted Indian side in the second game. Ojha also added that the recent incidents from the Australian media is a gimmick to take the pressure off their team and unsettle the Indians.

“Everybody knows Australians are bad losers. They are not able to take it (MCG defeat) despite five of our main players missing. Indian team is doing so well. They never expected the Indian team to win. They thought they could win, they were taken by surprise,” Pragyan Ojha told Sports Today.

“I feel it’s a big gimmick to take the pressure off Australia and try to get under the skin of the Indians. They don’t know we exactly know what they are trying to do. The Indian team is relaxed, they know what to do and focused on the last 2 Tests.

“Rohit Sharma, he has had a 14-day hard quarantine, before that training at the NCA. I am very sure he is not a fool to come and just breach the protocols. Yes, at times, things look different. I am very sure, they know what the protocols are and they follow them. The bottom line is Australians are bad losers,” he added.
