Bangladesh made an incredible comeback to international cricket after a gap of almost a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tigers, with their new skipper, Tamim Iqbal, beat the West Indies by six wickets with 16.1 overs to spare at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Shakib Al Hasan, who was playing at the highest level for the first since September 2019, didn’t look rusty, at least with the ball. For the Caribbean team, a lot needs to be looked into. Though they bowled well, their batting couldn’t pose much threat to the opposition.
The second game is scheduled to be played on Friday, January 22 and Jason Mohammed’s men have a massive task at hand to stay alive in the series. The home team, on the contrary, must be brimming with confidence after taking the 1-0 lead in the series.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch in Mirpur turned out to be a slow and low one in the previous game. The spinners came into play and it was extremely tough to play in the middle-overs. The track isn’t expected to change nature and a high-scoring game doesn’t seem to be on the cards.
The temperature will be around the 25 degrees Celsius mark with the humidity in the high-30s. There are no chances of rain whatsoever.

Players to watch out for in BAN vs WI
Shakib Al Hasan- Bangladesh
Shakib Al Hasan, pretty much, was unplayable for the inexperienced West Indies batting unit. The Magura-born wreaked havoc in the middle overs and returned with figures of 7.2-2-8-4.
It didn’t seem like he was playing international cricket after 16 months. With the bat, he tried to put his head down, scoring 19 runs off 43 balls, but left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein castled him to end his stay.
But keeping in mind the talent he possesses, Shakib has every chance of playing a decent hand with the bat.
Akeal Hosein- West Indies
Akeal Hosein, without a shred of a doubt, was the standout player for the West Indies in the match. In fact, he was the only Caribbean bowler, who completed his quota of 10 overs.
In his quota, he conceded only 26 runs and picked up the three wickets of Liton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Shakib. Even in the second game, the visiting team would be pinning hopes on Hosein to perform.
