The Big Bash League has grabbed the eyeballs of many Indian fans this year because of the ‘Mega IPL Auction’ coming up later this month. With the Big Bash league coming to almost the last quarter of the league stage, the points table is evenly poised out with the top 5 teams battling it hard to make it to the Semi-finals. Adelaide Strikers, who had a dismal season in 2016 are the leaders of the points table and are battling hard to win the title this time around.
The Strikers have had a tremendous season so far having lost only one match out of six that they have played. They also boast of a very good ‘Net Run Rate’ of +1.207. However, they will play their last two league matches with a new captain.
An Interim captain named
The Australian team will lock horns with England for a 5-match ODI series scheduled to commence from this Sunday. Having lost the Ashes to the Aussies, England will be keen to make a statement in the ODI-leg of the tour. The Adelaide Strikers skipper, Travis Head will be up for the national duties and will duly miss out crucial fixtures for his franchise. Meanwhile, Colin Ingram has been named the interim skipper for the last two league matches.
The “Bulldozer”, as he is often called will have to ensure at least one win in the remaining two games to confirm a berth in the Semi-finals. Ingram has had a decent outing with the Adelaide Strikers this season top-scoring with 66 off 44 and has maintained an impressive strike rate of 132.
The team management will be glad that he has been in some good form of late. He has played some vital innings for the Strikers and they would want him to do well to ensure a place in the semis. Ingram will have his first assignment as the captain for the Strikers this Saturday against the Perth Scorchers. He has got a huge task on his hands as the Perth Scorchers have had a very good run in this tournament.
