Three-time champions Perth Scorchers have had a dreadful BBL 2018-19 thus far. Despite the side putting up the best possible efforts, the results aren’t really going their way. After losing seven games thus far in the season, the Scorchers are almost knocked out of the semi-final race. In their 11th game this year, they will host the Melbourne Renegades.
The Renegades enter into this game on the back of a 12-run win against the Sydney Thunder. With 12 points (6 wins, 5 losses – 11 matches), they sit at the third spot on the points table. Yet, their Net Run Rate is a matter of concern. It is at -0.20 currently and the focus will be to improve upon that aspect as we reach towards the business end of the tournament.
Pitch and Conditions
The surface at the new Perth Stadium is a good one to bat on. The last three BBL games that were played at the venue witnessed over 350 runs scored and it could be nothing different this time either. The weather is pleasant and the humidity is expected to go up significantly during the night. The ball could come on to the bat even better in the second innings of the game.
Team Combinations
Perth Scorchers
Even though the Perth Scorchers’ side looks quite strong, the bowlers haven’t been able to live up to the expectations. In the last two games, even though the batsmen have put up good totals on the board, the bowlers failed to defend it. It is one aspect of the game they’ll really need to work upon. The management could be looking at alternatives for Usman Qadir who failed in both the last two games. However, Liam Guthrie is the only alternative available and he can make it into the playing eleven.
Predicted XI: Cameron Bancroft (wk), Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh (C), Ashton Turner, Hilton Cartwright, Nick Hobson, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Andrew Tye, Matthew Kelly, Jason Behrendorff, Usman Qadir/Liam Guthrie.
Melbourne Renegades
The Melbourne Renegades made one change to their squad for the battle against the Scorchers. Fast bowler Joe Mennie was added in place of Jon Holland. However, Mennie is unlikely to get into the playing eleven. The bowlers have performed exceptionally well against the Thunder in the last game. They could play the same eleven for the upcoming match.
Predicted XI: Aaron Finch (c), Mackenzie Harvey, Sam Harper (wk), Tom Cooper, Cameron White, Mohammad Nabi, Daniel Christian, Cameron Boyce, Chris Tremain, Kane Richardson, Harry Gurney.
