All the teams are trying hard to make some early inroads in the BBL 2018-19. Gaining some important points early on makes life easier for the later parts of the tournament. To do the same, the Perth Scorchers would host the Adelaide Strikers for the ninth game of the league. A win here is extremely important for the hosts.
The Scorchers have failed to register a win in both the games they played so far. Their struggles with the bat were quite evident in both these matches. The side will be eyeing at improving at this aspect of the game to get back on track. The Adelaide Strikers, on the other hand, were outshined in their previous game by the Melbourne Renegades courtesy a great partnership between Mohammad Nabi and Dan Christian.
Pitch and Conditions
This is the first game of the tournament this year that will be played at the new Optus Stadium in Perth. Just two limited-overs international games were played at the venue so far and both of them weren’t high scoring ones. This pitch could be similar and will have some assistance on offer for the bowlers. The temperature is slightly on the warmer side and there will be some strong wind blowing around.
The Perth Scorchers might be looking at bringing in Josh Inglis for this encounter instead of Sam Whiteman. Whiteman has failed in both the innings thus far registering scores of 8 and 0. The rest of the XI will remain similar to the one in the previous match. Ashton Turner will have to shoulder the additional responsibility with the bat in the middle order.
Predicted XI: Michael Klinger, Sam Whiteman/Josh Inglis (wk), David Willey, Ashton Turner (C), Hilton Cartwright, Ashton Agar, Andrew Tye, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jhye Richardson, William Bosisto, Jason Behrendroff.
The Adelaide Strikers will have to brush off the loss in the previous game and should look to start afresh in this match. Their batting has been good with some great depth in the lineup. Rashid Khan will be the key with the ball in hand. However, the other bowlers will have to step up to the occasion and yield some better performances.
Predicted XI: Alex Carey, Jake Weatherald, Colin Ingram (C), Matthew Short, Jonathan Wells, Jake Lehmann, Michael Neser, Rashid Khan, Ben Laughlin, Billy Stanlake, Cameron Valente.
