Cricket fans must gear up as the 2021-22 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) is set to get underway on December 5. This will be the 11th edition of the Australia-based T20 competition and fans must not expect anything less than mind-boggling action over the 22 yards. After all, T20 stalwarts from different quarters join forces with talented Aussie cricketers in the competition.

Defending champions Sydney Sixers will battle it out against Melbourne Stars at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the opening fixture of the tournament. Meanwhile, a total of 61 matches are in schedule including league-stage games and knock-out clashes. Like the previous edition, a total of eight teams will fight for the title and it would be interesting to see how the competition unfolds.

Meanwhile, the first 19 matches of the competition will take place before Christmas, which includes off-days on December 16,17, and 18. However, the next two weeks will be pretty hectic with 28 matches being on schedule including as many as eight doubleheaders. In fact, there’s a triple-header on January 19, which would see the conclusion of the league stage.

The top five sides at the end of the league stage will advance to the qualifying round. The top two teams will battle it out in the Qualifier with a place in the final at stakes. On the other hand, the fourth and fifth-placed teams will lock horns in the Eliminator. While the loser will be out of the title race, the winner will advance to the Knock-Out, where the third-placed team is slotted by virtue.

The winner of Knock-Out will meet the loser of the Qualifier to determine the other finalist. Subsequently, the summit clash will take place on January 28 and a champion will be out. With the tournament being round the corners, players and teams must buckle up to give their best over the 22 yards.
