The Finance Committee of the BCCI wants their roles to be defined and hence has put all important decisions including increasing the pay of women cricketers on hold till their role is not outlined from the Committee of Administration (CoA). The chairman of the committee – Jyotiraditya Scindia – left the meeting midway due to the lack of clarity on committee’s role.

The elite women cricketers were expected to get a substantial hike in their payments following this meeting but it has been put on hold now. The CoA is expected to clarify the role of the Financial Committee in the September 16 meeting which will be held in New Delhi. The Ranji Trophy cricketers are set to receive a hike too from their current pay of Rs 40,000 per game plus the added bonus they receive depending on BCCI’s profits.

CEO and CFO of the Board unsure of Committee’s role

According to a BCCI official present at the meeting, the CEO and CFO of BCCI didn’t have an answer to a valid question raised by the financial committee which led the chief to leave the meeting mid-way.

“Since CEO Rahul Johri and CFO Santosh Rangnekar were present, the Committee members including the chairman had a question for them,” a senior BCCI official present in the meeting told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“Since the CEO is the representative of COA in this meeting, he was asked whether this committee can take decisions independently or is a rubber-stamp body.”

The official further added: “The questions asked by the Committee were valid. Suppose we take a policy decision and the COA shoots it down.

“We need to know our scope and role. Unless that is clarified, we can’t take any decisions as it involves financial transactions.”

Ever since the Supreme Court appointed the CoA to oversee the operations of the BCCI, the Vinod Rai-led panel has taken all the major decisions in the Board. The CoA is expected to operate the BCCI until the elections are held in consultation to the Lodha Panel.
