Supreme Court has given orders to BCCI, to only allow office-bearers to attend the Special General Meeting(SGM). Adhering to the Supreme Court’s diktat, BCCI has barred its CEO Rahul Johri from attending SGM as he is not an office bearer. As per the court’s order only president, vice-president, secretary, joint/assistant secretary, and treasurer are eligible for the meeting.

Rahul Johri asked to leave premises of meeting

Representatives from Orissa and Punjab, along with Rahul are debarred from the meeting. Only office-bearers are allowed to attend the meeting. According to reports, Amitabh Choudhary asked Johri and other BCCI employees to leave the meeting premises before 24th July. The meeting is scheduled to be held in New Delhi.

Conventionally, a team of BCCI employees always attend such meetings to provide help in some secretarial matters. This is not in the rule book so BCCI is wary of taking such decision.

Rahul Johri is only a salaried employee

Johri is the CEO of BCCI and a salaried employee of the Board. According to a state unit representative, Johri is not an office bearer of BCCI hence it would not let him be a part of the meeting. The official admitted that Johri had attended all the previous SGMs but said that BCCI didn’t want to take any risk in this matter.

He said that the Indian Board is adamant on honoring SC order in letter and spirit. The official said that the acting secretary of BCCI had to tell all employees to leave the room.

“Johri is not an office bearer but a salaried employee of BCCI. While he attended all previous SGMs, we can’t take a chance this time as we have to honour SC order in letter and spirit. All employees were told by acting secretary that they have to leave the room,” a state unit representative, who did not wish to be named, told PTI.

Reportedly Choudhary checked all letters of authorization as he didn’t want to violate any order from the Apex court.
