There aren&#8217;t as many club cricket tournaments in the cricketing world, that feature the superstars that the IPL does. This year has been no exception, as the megastars from every major cricket-playing nation have had the chance to showcase their skills in <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/">IPL 2022</a>. There have been some heavyweight clashes on display this season as some of the biggest names have put their reputations on the line.

If we were to accommodate all those stars in one team, it will be dominated by the teams who have done well in the tournament. But what about the teams that didn&#8217;t make it through to the big stage of the IPL 2022? They had luminaries in their ranks as well, who shone throughout the tournament. Some brilliant individual performances will go under the radar because of the failures of their franchises as a team.

We take a look at some of the best players in their positions in the tournament, outside of the top-performing teams in IPL 2022.

1. David Warner

One of the most consistent run-getters in the history of IPL, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/dc-batter-warner-shares-an-emotional-post-after-his-teams-exit-from-ipl-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">David Warner</a> had a miserable run in 2021.  As his struggle with the bat continued, he was stripped of the captaincy by the Sunrisers Hyderabad Management. After being axed from the squad, fans feared the worst for Warner.

Warner&#8217;s poor run in IPL 2021 raised questions about his skills, and there were murmurs that he might even consider retirement. But the Australian opener returned to form with solid performances in the T20 World Cup.

The Aussie opener&#8217;s performances were rewarded as the Delhi Capitals pouched him in the IPL 2022 auctions for INR 6.25 Cr. David Warner set the record straight as he continued his form in the IPL. The three-time Orange Cap winner made a statement by scoring 92* off 58 balls against his former side, Sunrisers Hyderabad. The explosive opener scored 432 runs this year averaging 48 and striking at 150. Warner&#8217;s form was one of the driving forces behind Delhi Capital&#8217;s playoff hopes.

2. Abhishek Sharma

A hard-hitting lower-order batter by trade, Abhishek Sharma was an integral part of the U19 World Cup-winning Indian squad in 2018. The left-hand batter can slip in a few handy overs with the ball as well. Since his childhood days, Sharma was trained by his father, Raj Kumar Sharma, who was a state-level cricketer himself.

Sharma made his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2018. But the southpaw didn&#8217;t get much time on the field and was roped in by <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/srh-sunrisers-hyderabad/">Sunrisers Hyderabad</a> the following season. For the next three years, the Punjab-born all-rounder was restricted to utility roles at the franchise.

Sunrisers didn&#8217;t retain the youngster, but they resigned him in the<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/"> IPL 2022</a> auction for INR 6.50 Cr. The 22-year-old was promoted up the order to accommodate the position vacated by the Australian David warner. Sharma has grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he has played some eye-catching innings for SRH in IPL 2022.

He has 423 runs to his name and his composure and fearlessness against world-class spinners like Rashid Khan and Sunil Narine showcase the talent he possesses. A call-up to the Indian side doesn&#8217;t look far away for the youngster.

3. Rahul Tripathi

Sunrisers Hyderabad roped in Rahul Tripathi in the auctions for INR 8.50 Cr. The batter had a successful season with <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/kkr-kolkata-knight-riders/">KKR</a> in IPL 2021, as Rahul finished with 397 runs to his name. Sunrisers were looking to bounce back from an abysmal run in IPL 2021.

The fidgety batter delivered on his promise as he scored 413 runs this season with a strike rate above 150. He has been solid in the middle order even with his attacking intent and has looked the part. Tripathi is the highest run-getter at number threein the tournament, with the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson below him.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/feel-for-him-twitter-disappointed-with-rahul-tripathi-not-getting-a-chance-in-indias-t20i-squad/">Tripathi&#8217;s</a> performances had merited a call up to the Indian side, but the selectors decided against it, a glaring decision that received criticism from experts and former cricketers.

4. Liam Livingstone

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/had-a-few-comments-after-last-season-pbks-liam-livingstone-happy-to-prove-critics-wrong-with-sensational-show-in-ipl-2022/">Liam Livingstone</a> arrived in the IPL with a reputation as a power hitter. But his brief performances over two years with Rajasthan Royals were disappointing. Livingstone&#8217;s reputation was only growing in stature, especially after his belligerent batting display against Pakistan. The Lancashire man smashed England&#8217;s fastest-ever international hundred, off just 42 balls, in the first T20 against Pakistan at Trent Bridge.

Punjab Kings prized the Englishman for INR 11.50 Cr in the 2022 auctions. The batting all-rounder finally arrived in the IPL and brought his fireworks along with him. Livingstone has scored 437 runs in IPL 2022 with four half-centuries, and a strike rate of over 180. He has shown no restraint with the bat in hand and has smacked sixes at will. Livingstone has also chipped in with the ball by picking up six wickets.

Unfortunately, we won&#8217;t be seeing any more of him in IPL 2022 as Punjab Kings failed to make the playoffs. But it was fitting that Livingstone hit the 1000th six of IPL 2022, the highest number of sixes in an IPL season to till date. He bows out of the tournament with 34 sixes to his name, second only to his compatriot Jos Buttler&#8217;s 37. One of those 34 sixes was a 117-meter monstrous hit against GT, the longest of the season.

At the young age of 18, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/dont-compare-rishabh-pant-with-ms-dhoni-sourav-ganguly/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rishabh Pant </a>made his First-class debut for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy. He scored a half-century in the 2nd innings. Pant&#8217;s unorthodox batting technique has always raised questions about his performance, but the southpaw, just like his approach to the game, has dismissed all doubters out of the park.

Pant had an amazing IPL 2018 as he scored 684 runs at a blistering strike rate of 173. Pant was awarded the &#8216;Emerging Player of the Year trophy for his brilliant showing in the IPL. He translated his limited-overs into the longest form of the game as well.

Rishabh Pant was appointed the stand-in captain of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021 after an injury to Shreyas Iyer. After the departure of Shreyas Iyer in 2022, he took over the reins backed by head coach Ricky Ponting. Pant&#8217;s Delhi side failed to reach the playoffs in IPL 2022, and he has received flak for some poor judgment as a skipper from behind the wicket. But, the southpaw has scored 340 runs for his side, breaching the 300-run mark for the 6th consecutive season. With the amount of success the southpaw has achieved in his short career, we tend to forget that he is still just 24 years of age.

6. Andre Russell

If you have followed cricket even for a tiny bit, you are probably familiar with the name Andre Russell. The globetrotting all-rounder from West Indies is one of the hardest hitters of a cricket ball in the game. Andre Russell&#8217;s striking prowess at times feels unfair to the bowlers, as the Jamaican can clear any boundary in the world with his brute force. As if his batting wasn&#8217;t enough, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/no-all-rounder-has-performed-better-than-andre-russell-in-ipl-2022-nikhil-chopra/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Russell </a>can make the ball talk as well, generating serious pace to trouble batters.

Russell didn&#8217;t have the most prolific seasons in the last couple of years in the IPL. But the Kolkata management showed immense faith in his abilities as he was one of their four retained players ahead of the 2022 auctions. Although his injury concerns have restricted his bowling time, the two-time world champion still was an asset to the KKR side.

The all-rounder repaid the faith shown in him by scoring 335 runs this season at a strike rate of 174. He was equally productive with the ball in the hand, picking up 17 wickets in 14 matches. In many instances, he has been the savior for the franchise this season, playing lone hands and running out of partners. His ridiculous bowling figures of four wickets for just five runs against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 is one of the all-time best performances by a pacer. The two-time MVP of IPL was in contention for a third this season, but KKR&#8217;s failure to qualify for the playoffs means he won&#8217;t get the chance to add to his tally.

7. Kagiso Rabada

At just 26 years of age, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/no-i-know-rashid-khan-kagiso-rabadas-hilarious-response-on-whether-he-knows-salman-khan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kagiso Rabada&#8217;s</a> stats are quite remarkable. The express pacer has over 400 wickets for South Africa across all formats on the International stage. Rabada&#8217;s figure of 16/6 still holds as the best figure by a bowler on an ODI debut.

Rabada brought his A-game to the IPL as well. His 30-wicket haul (2nd most wickets in a season) in IPL 2020 propelled his Delhi side to the competition&#8217;s final. But the South African had an underwhelming outing in IPL 2021 as he could manage just 15 wickets.

Punjab Kings brought Rabada for a sum of INR 9.25Cr in IPL 2022 auctions. The former Delhi player has been breathing fire down the necks of the batters and has looked like the man from 2020, as he accounted for 23 batsmen in 13 games. Rabada, currently stranded on 99 wickets in the IPL, requires one wicket in seven games to become the quickest to 100 wickets in the IPL, breaking Lasith Malinga&#8217;s record, who took 70 games to reach the three-figure mark.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/this-is-a-do-or-die-situation-for-us-kuldeep-yadav-ahead-of-crucial-pbks-vs-dc-clash/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kuldeep Yadav</a> played cricket as a leisure activity in his childhood days. It was his father who made him pursue cricket as a profession. Yadav started as a fast bowler Advised to try left-arm wrist spin by his coach, Kapil Pandey, a rare skill that Yadav mastered at a very young age.

The Chinaman, as they are commonly referred to, attracted global attention in the U-19 world cup in 2014, where he finished up 2nd highest wicket-taker with a hat-trick to his name as well. He made his debut for the national team in 2017 and has the 2nd best strike rate in T20Is. The 2018 IPL was his breakthrough season, as he ended up scalping 17 wickets for KKR. But a barren couple of years saw him oscillating between sides in the IPL.

Delhi Capitals gambled on the unorthodox spinner as he was picked up for INR 2.00 Cr in the IPL 2022 auctions. The 27-year-old regained his mojo and has had his most productive year in the IPL to date. Under the guidance of skipper, Rishab Pant, Kuldeep has looked the most threatening in IPL 2022. Yadav has accounted for 21 wickets this season as he has bamboozled quite a few batters with his deceptive googly. Belonging to a rare breed of wrist spinners, Kuldeep&#8217;s form bodes well for the Indian team.

9. Jasprit Bumrah

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2022-jasprit-bumrah-becomes-first-indian-bowler-to-scalp-15-wickets-for-7th-consecutive-season/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jasprit Bumrah</a> burst onto the scene as a limited-overs specialist in 2016. His slinging action and accuracy with yorkers drew similarities with his Mumbai teammate, Lasith Malinga. But his potential reached new heights when he made his Test debut in 2018. The pacer has added a new dimension to his bowling as he has displayed great control with the red ball.

Bumrah has hit the 15 wicket mark in every season since 2016, but his death bowling has been an asset to the Mumbai side. In the last couple of years, he has been equally potent in the powerplay as he has troubled batters with his impeccable line and length. Mumbai Indians rewarded the pacer by retaining him ahead of the IPL 2022 auctions.

Jasprit Bumrah is another senior player who has had a below-par season for MI in comparison to his high standards. The Indian quick has picked up just 15 wickets in 14 games of IPL 2022. Although, his figures of 5/10 against KKR are the best of this season so far. The yorker specialist has looked like himself in the last few games as he has been impressive at the death overs and is still the best death bowler in the tournament.

10. Arshdeep Singh

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/have-only-seen-zaheer-nehra-do-that-virender-sehwag-lauds-death-over-specialist-arshdeep-singh/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Arshdeep Singh</a> was part of the U-19 World Cup-winning team in 2018, where he picked three wickets in two games. Singh had an impressive IPL in UAE in 2020, where he picked nine wickets with an economy rate of 8.77 to finish as the fourth-highest wicket-taker for the side.

It was in IPL 2021 that the 23-year-old emerged as a serious talent. The left-arm quick was the second-highest wicket-taker for the team with 18 wickets in 12 matches at an economy rate of 8.27. Punjab Kings saw the potential in the youngster and retained him ahead of IPL 2022 auctions.

This IPL season, his ability to control batsmen in the death overs was key for his side. At just 23, the youngster has shown tremendous composure and control in pressure situations, especially in the closing stages of an innings. His average and accuracy have been one of the best in the league and displayed his ability to take wickets and not leak runs in the death overs, he has been called to the Indian team for the series against South Africa. The right-arm quick&#8217;s economy at the death is one of the best in the IPL this year.

11. Umran Malik

A new speedster on the blocks is turning heads with his sheer pace in the IPL, a 22-year-old from Jammu and Kashmir named <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-expert-saba-karim-lauds-former-indian-pacer-pathan-after-umran-malik-gets-selected-in-the-national-squad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Umran Malik</a>, who is making the speed guns work in the IPL. The Sunriser’s pacer has bowled the fastest delivery of the IPL 2022, clocking 157kmph, the fastest ball ever bowled by an Indian in IPL history.

The sturdy pacer burst onto the scene last year after making his debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Sunrisers camp raised eyebrows when they decided to retain Umran Malik ahead of exemplary Rashid Khan. When IPL 2022 began, it looked like an error on the management’s part because the pacer was leaking runs at an alarming rate.

But the pacer has proved everyone wrong. Umran has had one of the breakthrough seasons in IPL 2022, the tearaway pacer has bagged 22 wickets and is 4th on the list of leading wicket tackers this season. His explosive pace has made him one of the most exciting players this season, and the fans will soon see him donning the blue jersey in the series against South Africa.
