The Rangpur Rangers’ fate in the ongoing BPL 2019-20 are pretty much hanging by a thread. Having won two out of their seven matches, Shane Watson’s men and played sixth in the points table. In their previous encounter, the Rangers rolled over the Sylhet Thunder by seven wickets. The victory took them place up from the bottom and also improved their net run rate that is currently at -1.490.

The Rangers’ are next scheduled to lock horns with the Rajshahi Royals in the second of Tuesday’s doubleheader in Mirpur. The Royals have been in stupendous form of late. But in their previous game, Dhaka Platoon thumped them by 74 runs. The loss dented their net run rate and pushed them down to fourth in the table. However, the Royals will be fancying their chances against Rangpur.

Pitch and Conditions

The track at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium has mostly favoured the batting team, though spinners have also gotten some help. Moreover, dew also play a major role in the night game, especially in the second innings. Hence, batting second should remain the way forward. The conditions will be cold with the temperature around 19 degrees Celsius. Humidity isn’t a concern.

Team Combination

Rajshahi Royals

The Royals’ batting stuttered for the first time in their previous game. The fact that they were bowled out for 100 would make them put on their thinking hat. Afif Hossain looked in good touch, scoring 31 last time, but couldn’t kick on. Royals will be keen to put the odd disappointment aside.

In the bowling area, Russell has used eight to nine options in most of the matches. Last time, Taijul Islam didn’t get to bowl despite being a specialist bowler. Russell himself has been impressive though. Farhad Reza was taken for 44 runs in three overs and he will be keen to make amends.

Probable XI

Liton Das (wk), Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Alok Kapali, Shoaib Malik, Ravi Bopara, Andre Russell (C), Nahidul Islam, Farhad Reza, Taijul Islam, Mohammad Irfan, Kamrul Islam Rabbi

Rangpur Rangers

For the Rangers, Mohammad Naim has provided solidity at the top of the order. He is their leading run-scorer with 214 runs at an average of 35.66, though his strike-rate has gone down. The fact that Cameron Delport notched a 28-ball 63 last time around would keep him in a positive frame of mind.

Lewis Gregory and Mohammad Nabi need to be more consistent with the bat in hand. Mustafizur Rahman has gotten three wickets each in the last two matches. The left-arm pacer seems to have found his mojo. Gregory and Nabi have been reasonable with nine and six wickets respectively.

Probable XI

Mohammad Naim, Shane Watson (C), Cameron Delport, Lewis Gregory, Mohammad Nabi, Jahurul Islam, Fazle Mahmud, Arafat Sunny, Al-Amin, Mustafizur Rahman, Mukidul Islam
