Mustafizur Rahman helped Rajshahi Kings clinch victory from the jaws of defeat against Chittagong Vikings. Despite the victory at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, the Kings find themselves in some trouble as they are on the sixth spot with five wins and as many losses. They desperately need to win their next encounter against Rangpur Riders at the same venue.
In the meantime, the Riders are on a role especially after the inclusion of the veteran AB de Villiers. Earlier they beat Dhaka Dynamites in Chattogram and raced to the top of the points table. Their batting has looked ominous than ever and they seem unstoppable for the time being. The Kings have a potent bowling attack and it would be a challenge for the Rangpur batsmen to counter its venom.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch in Chattogram has assisted the batsmen to a significant extent. However, amidst some serious carnage by the batsman, the bowlers have also shown that the deck had something for them as well. However, batting second may be a tad tricky as the chasing teams have found it difficult. Batting first seems to be the most judicious thing to do for the time being.
Team Combinations
Rangpur Riders
Chris Gayle and Alex Hales are the opening batsmen with the South African Rilee Russouw at number three. A lot will depend on how the swashbuckling AB de Villiers bats in the middle order. The batting has depth with skipper Mashrafe lower down the order. The captain also has to step up with the ball in hand. Shahidul and Shafiul are the other pacers with Nazmul Islam Apu being the spinner.
Probable XI
Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, Rilee Russouw, AB de Villiers, Mohammad Mithun (wk), Nahidul Islam, Farhad Reza, Mashrafe Mortaza (C), Nazmul Islam, Shafiul Islam, Shahidul Islam
Rajshahi Kings
Johnson Charles and Soumya Sarkar are the openers with the experienced Laurie Evans at number three. The onus would be on Ryan ten Doeschate and Christiaan Jonker in the middle order. Mahmud, Mominul and Mehidy need to deliver with the bat as well. The team will again be looking up to Mustafizur Rahman to deliver in pressure situations. Arafat Sunny and Mehidy are the spinners.
