Carlos Brathwaite is a fan favourite in India. After his heroics against England in the 2016 T20 World Cup final, Carlos has become a sensation and that has carried him until now. However, he has not been his own since then and a number of failures and some fitness issues have made the selectors go for someone else but him.

Brathwaite joined his Indian Premier League team Delhi Daredevils and there was a spur of confusion that Brathwaite had chucked his international duties to play in the cash-rich tournament. This confusion was cleared by his coach Stuart Law and also by Carlos himself.

Law said that Brathwaite had been omitted solely because of his lack of fitness and match practice. He sounded a bit concerned about it as well. Anyhow, the coach thinks that going to the IPL will only help him he will be working under an Indian great Rahul Dravid.

“Namely his fitness and his bowling, getting back bowling to how he wants to bowl. He has been left out for those reasons and it’s just coincided that the IPL is there. (He will) get to talk to guys like Rahul Dravid and learn how to play spin and he’ll get plenty of practice over there with all the net bowlers that are available,” said Stuart Law.

Law further cleared the air by saying that it was good for Carlos to get away a bit and work on his fitness. Law said, “We just thought the opportunity was there for Carlos to go away and work on a few aspects of his game.”

The 28-year-old, also made it clear through his Twitter handle. He tweeted that he was omitted from the ODI squad hence he has arrived early for his IPL preparations. The tweet read, “Just to clear up an obvious misunderstanding, I was omitted from the ODI squad, hence my early arrival for IPL. All the best to ODI team.”
