One of the most dangerous batsmen in the world, Chris Gayle has decided against playing the upcoming Big Bash League in Australia and will instead spend time with his family during a festive period. Gayle who has been bothered by a troublesome back revealed this in an on-field interview during the Bangladesh Premier League match between Chittagong Vikings and the Rangpur Rider.

“Out of the Big Bash League this year will spend time with family,” a mic ‘d up Gayle told commentators during his first appearance in the BPL 2016.

The star West Indies batsman was involved in a major controversy during his last stint with the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League. He had an inappropriate on-air exchange with broadcaster Mel McLaughlin. Following the incident, Gayle was fined for his alleged sexual behaviour as Cricket Australia decided to terminate his contract and ban him from participating in any further matches.

The incident put Gayle’s future in jeopardy as several Big Bash clubs were not interested in acquiring the services of the whirlwind batsman though the board softened its stand following the incident. The hard-hitting left-hander issued an apology after the incident as he underwent a rather patchy season for the Renegades scoring 260 runs in 8 matches. He struck only one half-century in the final game as Renegades failed to progress beyond the group stage.

Gayle has been a prolific run-scorer for West Indies with many records his name. The big man from Jamaica remains the only cricketer in their history of the game to start off a Test match with a six. He is also one among the four players who has the rare achievement of scoring two triple centuries in Test.

“A nightmare “for the bowlers, Gayle also holds the record for most centuries in T20 cricket with 19, followed by Brendon McCullum with 11.
