Trinbago Knight Riders, on the back of consecutive wins, are sitting pretty on top of the table in the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Though he had a few hiccups in the openers against Guyana Amazon Warriors, Dwayne Bravo and Co brushed aside the Jamaica Tallawahs by seven wickets. Their next match is against the Barbados Tridents in the first of Sunday’s doubleheader in Trinidad.
Last time around in 2019, the Tridents beat the Knight Riders in all their three games. However, this year, the Knights have been far more clinical than their opponent. The Tridents beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by six runs and then went down to the St Lucia Zouks in the rain-curtailed game. In all the departments, Jason Holder and Co have looked rusty thus far and they need to up their game.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at the Brian Lara Stadium has been a decent one for batting. Though it has been a tad on the slower side, helping the spinners, playing shots hasn’t been all that difficult. Teams batting second have gotten the advantage and hence, winning the toss and fielding first should be the way forward. There are chances of rain with thunderstorms with the temperature around 30 degrees.
Playing Combinations
Trinbago Knight Riders
For TKR, Sunil Narine has done chunk of the work, scoring 103 runs with two fifties and picking up three wickets at an economy of 4.75. Ali Khan has been decent as well, getting three wickets at 6.57. Colin Munro also chipped in with an unbeaten 49 in TKR’s successful run-chase against Tallawahs.
It’s time for the rest of the players to step up. Lendl Simmons will be looking to make amends after back-to-back low scores. Skipper Kieron Pollard hasn’t been at his best either. Fawad Ahmed has been reasonable, but needs to be amongst the wickets. The onus will also be on Seales to deliver.
Predicted XI
Lendl Simmons, Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Darren Bravo, Kieron Pollard (C), Tim Seifert, Dwayne Bravo, Khary Pierre, Jayden Seales, Ali Khan, Fawad Ahmed
Barbados Tridents
The Tridents haven’t shown sheer dominance until now. In batting, Holder has 65 runs, striking at 191.17. Johnson Charles turned up with 35 runs in the powerplay against the Zouks. But apart from that, a lot of work needs to be done. Shai Hope and Corey Anderson have looked out of touch.
Mitchell Santner bowled well versus the Patriots, but didn’t get to bowl in the last game. So was the case with Hayden Walsh Jr. Rashid Khan has four wickets, but at an economy of 8.50, much higher than his career numbers. Holder has been economical, but he is yet to open his account of wickets.
Predicted XI
Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (wk), Corey Anderson, Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder (C), Jonathan Carter, Ashley Nurse, Raymon Reifer, Mitchell Santner, Rashid Khan, Hayden Walsh Jr
