Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered their second consecutive win in IPL 2023 as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets on Friday, April 21 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Courtesy of their win, they’re now ranked on the third spot in the points table with four wins from six games. After opting to bowl first, the MS Dhoni-led side restricted SRH to 134/7 courtesy of Ravindra Jadeja’s three-wicket haul.

In the second innings, they chased down the target in 18.4 overs as Devon Conway top-scored with 77* off 57 balls. Having returned to the winning track, CSK will look to continue their winning momentum against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, April 23 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. To beat KKR in their home ground CSK will once again have to field a strong playing XI.

Openers: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad
Devon Conway has been in stupendous form in the past three games as he has registered three consecutive half-centuries. He scored an unbeaten 77 off 57 balls against SRH to guide his side home with eight balls to spare. The Southpaw has also joined the race for the Orange Cap as he’s the fourth-highest run-scorer of the tournament so far with 258 runs to his name in six innings at an average of 51.60 and a strike rate of 144.13.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, unfortunately, got run out against SRH after a well-made 35 off 30 balls. The opener has also been in brilliant form being the second-highest run scorer for CSK with 235 runs to his name from six innings at an average of 47 and a strike rate of 144.17. After having quiet outings in the last three matches, Gaikwad will be hungry for runs against KKR.
Middle-order: Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni (c & wk)
Ajinkya Rahane scored a sensational 61 off 27 balls against Mumbai Indians in the third fixture and announced his return to form after a disastrous 2022 season. Rahane has batted at a strike rate of 181.57 in the season so far and has shown intent right from the word go. The veteran batter will be eager to continue his fireworks against his former team KKR.
Shivam Dube put his hitting prowess on display in the game against RCB as he smacked 52 off 27 balls clobbering five gigantic sixes. The southpaw is capable of whacking the ball a long distance and will be eagerly waiting to play on the belter of a track at Eden Gardens.
The CSK captain MS Dhoni has looked at his vintage best so far in the tournament batting at a strike rate of 210.71 clobbering four fours and six sixes so far in the tournament. The 41-year-old has batted with complete freedom in the ongoing edition and enthralled the fans with his monstrous hits.
All-rounders: Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja picked up his second three-wicket haul of the season against SRH as he finished his spell with 3/22 in four overs. The southpaw is the second-highest wicket-taker for CSK so far having scalped nine wickets in six innings at an average of 15.77. However, he’s failed to fire with the bat scoring 39 runs from four innings at a strike rate of 125.80. The 34-year-old will look to once again put his all-round skills on display against KKR.
Moeen Ali has done a good job with the ball in the tournament so far having picked up six wickets from four innings at an average of 13 and an economy of 8.66. With the bat, he’s accumulated 74 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 134.54. The spin all-rounder will look to make a valuable contribution to team’s victory against KKR.
Bowlers: Matheesha Pathirana, Maheesh Theekshana, Akash Singh, Tushar Deshpande
Matheesha Pathirana has impressed everyone in the season so far as he’s picked up three wickets in two matches at an average of 21.33 and an economy of 8. The Sri Lankan seamer will be put to Test against the strong batting of KKR at batting-friendly Eden Gardens.
Maheesh Theekshana picked up one wicket in his four-over spell against SRH giving away 27 runs. The 22-year-old will look to bowl another economical spell against KKR.
Akash Singh picked the prized scalp of Harry Brook against SRH and finished his spell on 1/17 in four overs. The 20-year-old has picked four wickets in the tournament so far at an average of 23.
Tushar Deshpande has been the leading wicket-taker for CSK with ten wickets to his name at an average of 23.50. However, his economy has been on the higher side as he’s given away runs at a rate of 11.01 per over. The 27-year-old will be eager to add more wickets to his tally and claim the purple cap for this season.
