Punjab Kings (PBKS) have faced a downward spiral since making a winning start to the Indian Premier League 2024 season. Shikhar Dhawan and his side beat Delhi Capitals to begin their season. This has been followed by successive losses to Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants.

The next big challenge for the Punjab Kings team comes in the form of Gujarat Titans (GT). The Titans themselves come into the game on the back of their win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The IPL 2022 winners saw David Miller come back to form in the much-needed against the high-flying Hyderabad side.

One more loss could have a huge bearing on the season for Punjab Kings. They are currently 8th in the table just above Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians. The IPL 2014 finalists will be hoping to stun the home team and take their 2nd win of the campaign.

Openers – Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow

After a slow start to the tournament, the opening pair for Punjab Kings has slowly found life. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan has already hit 137 runs from 3 with a best of 70 in the last game against LSG. Despite the best efforts from the veteran batter, PBKS lost the match.

Jonny Bairstow was at this aggressive best scoring 42 runs from just 29 balls. The England star will look to build on the confidence from the last game and score more runs. PBKS need Jonny Bairstow to be at his best if they have to make it to the top four in the table.

Middle-order – Jitesh Sharma and Shashank Singh

One of the areas where PBKS has struggled is the lack of runs from the middle order. Jitesh Sharma has struggled to put up runs on the board with consistency. The 30-year-old could very well lose his place in the national team with his woeful run of form.

Shashank Singh on the other hand has played some crucial knocks whenever his team has needed it. The 32-year-old star has shown his big-hitting skills and ability to score quick runs towards the end of the innings.

All-rounder – Sam Curran and Sikandar Raza

The pressure on Sam Curran to do well with the bat and ball for PBKS is high this season. The 25-year-old has been consistent with the bat and ball this season. Apart from Shikhar Dhawan, it is Sam Curran who has been a key player and PBKS will hope that he continues in the same vein of form.

After the injury to Liam Livingstone, Sikandar Raza is the favourite to replace him, The Zimbabwean veteran star has all the tools needed to be considered a dangerous T20 player.

Bowlers – Harpreet Brar, Rahul Chahar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Kagiso Rabada

Punjab Kings spinner Harpreet Brar has impressed everyone with his tight lines and wicket-taking skills. The onus of taking wickets falls on Brar especially as Rahul Chahar has struggled to find his form this year.

The fast bowling talents of Kagiso Rabada will hold the key as the South African bowler has been moderate. Arshdeep Singh has been the best Punjab Kings seamer on show with his wicket-taking skills. Harshal Patel though has been struggling to find his groove and been leaking runs with the ball.
