Shute Banerjee played for India against the West Indies in a Test match at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai in 1949. The right-arm pacer was towards the fag end of his career and did not get many chances to play for India due to his career overlapping with the World War II period. Banerjee claimed 1/73 and 4/54 in the only Test he played for India.

Banerjee had great stats in First-Class cricket. He played 138 matches and claimed 385 wickets at a bowling average of 26.68 with an impressive strike rate of 48.9. With the bat, he scored 3,715 runs at an average of 20.63, including five hundreds and eleven fifty-plus scores. Unfortunately, Banerjee never played for India again due to his age.
