The five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are enduring a disappointing start to their Indian Premier League 2026 campaign. Having lost three consecutive matches, both their batting and bowling units have failed to deliver consistently.
Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK are also feeling the absence of MS Dhoni, who is sidelined due to a calf strain. With a relatively inexperienced XI, the team is struggling to find rhythm. To bounce back, CSK must address their weaknesses quickly and make some key tactical changes.
Here are the three things CSK must do to return to winning ways:
Bring in Dewald Brevis if fit
CSK should look to include Dewald Brevis in the playing XI if he is fit. The young South African was in sublime form during IPL 2025, scoring 225 runs in six matches at an impressive strike rate of 180. He is known for his ability to clear boundaries against both pace, spin and can inject much-needed aggression into CSK’s middle order.
His presence in the middle overs can help accelerate the scoring rate, especially at a time when the team has struggled to maintain momentum. Adding Brevis would not only strengthen the batting lineup but also provide a dynamic option to counter opposition bowlers.
