John Buchanan is regarded as one of the most successful coaches in cricket history. He took over as Australia’s head coach in 1999 during Steve Waugh’s captaincy. Australia achieved an astonishing 15 consecutive Test victories under the duo's partnership.
Although Buchanan later partnered with Ricky Ponting, his journey began with Waugh in a period that laid the foundation for Australia’s golden era. They oversaw Australia’s 2001 and 2002–03 Ashes triumphs as well as several bilateral series wins. Buchanan’s tenure included monumental achievements like the 2003 World Cup, a historic 2004 series win in India (Australia's first in 36 years), and a record-breaking run of 16 consecutive Test victories.
