The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League has started to spread its wings. The franchises have been asked to submit the list of retained players for the following season by November 15. Also, it has been reported that the IPL auction 2023 will be conducted on December 23.

With the deadline for submission around the corner, it can be expected that the players who did not perform as per expectations or do not fit into the scheme of things could be oustered. Among these players, there could be a few who fetched a staggering amount for the 2022 season.

Here are the five most expensive players who might be released:

5. Shahrukh Khan (INR 9 CR)

Shahrukh Khan has taken Indian domestic cricket by storm with his jaw-dropping performances. The 27-year-old also displayed his power-hitting prowess in the 14th edition of the IPL which saw him smash 153 runs in 11 games for Punjab Kings at a strike rate of 134.51.

Punjab Kings went all guns blazing to re-sign the destructive batter at the 2022 mega auction and picked him at a hefty sum of INR 9 CR. However, Shahrukh was not able to repay the faith and had a dismal campaign where he could manage 117 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 108.33.

Shahrukh performed quite poorly in the recently culminated Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 as well and scored mere 45 runs in six games for Tamil Nadu at a strike rate of 93.75. Given the destructive batter has failed to impress in his last IPL stint and has been out of form of late, PBKS might part ways with the ace finisher in near future.
