The 2024 Indian Premier League auction is less than a week away and cricket enthusiasts are all excited to witness the marquee event to be held in Dubai. The auction will witness 333 players going under the hammer, of which 119 will be overseas players. Among the foreigners, some players are the favourites to get big money due to their 2023 World Cup performances.
In the mega One-Day International (ODI) event, a few players showcased their best and became the talk of the town. Following their excellent performances, some IPL franchises might not shy away from getting these players at enormous prices in the upcoming auction.
Here are five players who might get big money in the 2024 IPL auction:
5. Daryl Mitchell
Daryl Mitchell looked spectacular for New Zealand in the 2023 World Cup, hitting 552 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 111.06. With these numbers, he ended up as the leading run-getter in the competition. At the upcoming business event, the Kiwi stalwart will go under the hammer at his base price of INR 50 lakh.
Noting Mitchell’s form, some franchises might show faith in him for the 2024 season. Delhi Capitals (DC) released middle-order batters Phil Salt and Rilee Rossouw in November and the franchise might go after Mitchell in the upcoming auction. Capitals have INR 28.95 crore remaining in the purse and they may splurge a heavy amount to sign up Mitchell.
Back in 2022, the New Zealander made his IPL debut in Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) jersey but couldn’t perform as per the expectations. In 2023, he went unsold but this time, he is likely to get picked up due to his scintillating form.
