IPL 2026: 3 Released CSK players who could trigger a bidding war between RCB and MI at auction

Chennai Super Kings’ release list ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction has opened the door for a bidding war, especially with several players returning to the auction pool. With CSK freeing up INR 43.40 crore, many of their released players, particularly those who have previously delivered in high-pressure situations, fit perfectly into the current squad requirements of both RCB and MI. CSK retained their senior core and young talent while releasing multiple domestic and overseas names.

RCB has a strong purse and multiple slots, including overseas positions. The defending champions will look to fill in the gaps, and various CSK released players match directly with their requirements. Meanwhile, MI has INR 2.75 crore and five slots. The five-time champions, who are looking to end their trophy drought, will target CSK-released names who provide multi-skill value. However, their limited purse will lead them to opt for selective options.

3. Deepak Hooda

Indian cricketer Deepak Hooda enters the 2026 auction as an all-round option, having IPL experience, searching for a consistent breakthrough. His ability to clear the ropes made headlines early in his career, fetching him a massive INR 4.2 crore deal in the 2016 auction after an impressive debut season with the Rajasthan Royals. Hooda’s three-dimensional skill set earned him a long stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad, contributing valuable cameos during their 2016 title-winning campaign.

His career then took him to Lucknow Super Giants, where he enjoyed a breakout 2022 season and even earned an India call-up, scoring a T20I hundred against Ireland. But inconsistency and limited opportunities hampered his progress, leading to a dip in form and an underwhelming 2023 IPL season. Released by LSG, he was picked by CSK for 2025. However, the previous season, too, didn't go as he would have wished for. As the 30-year-old re-enters the auction, RCB and MI can add him to their roster to increase their Indian core.

2. Rachin Ravindra

Young all-rounder, Rachin Ravindra, is another name that has been let go by CSK, and he too can create a potential bidding war between teams. Despite moments of promise across two seasons, CSK decided to move on from the New Zealand all-rounder after a modest 2025 campaign, where he managed 191 runs at a strike rate of 128.18. The franchise’s plan of moving towards building a younger batting unit ultimately pushed Ravindra out of their long-term plans.

But Ravindra’s upside makes him a tempting target. His ability to attack in the power play, anchor innings, and bowl occasional left-arm spin makes him a good buy. With both RCB and MI having a slot available for an overseas player, Ravindra could find a new home, especially potentially with these two franchises.
