Match 17 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) will see the Punjab Kings (PBKS) take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Saturday, April 11.
PBKS return to their home after playing two away games on the bounce. They beat the Chennai Super Kings before their game against the Kolkata Knight Riders was abandoned due to heavy rains at the Eden Gardens.
SRH, meanwhile, have won one and lost two games in the IPL so far. This includes their defeat at the hands of the Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in their previous game.
Matches in the IPL are won and lost, not only on the field but also in the strategic and tactical decisions taken off it. It has become increasingly important for teams to make use of their one Impact Sub in the most optimal manner to get the best out of their batting or bowling prowess.
Predicted Impact Players for Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Priyansh Arya: Priyansh Arya is PBKS’ designated Impact Sub player when the side is chasing a total. The left-hander is scoring at a strike-rate of 242.10 in this season’s IPL.
Harpreet Brar: An experienced left-arm spinner, Harpreet Brar played eight times for PBKS last season and took 10 wickets. The 30-year-old could be an Impact Sub option if the pitch offers something for the spinners to exploit.
Vishnu Vinod: A hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batter, Vishnu Vinod’s T20 strike-rate is 141.92. He has, however, not played in the IPL since 2023, but enters this season on the back of some excellent form in the domestic circuit for Kerala.
Praveen Dubey: Another spin-bowling option, Praveen Dubey played once for PBKS in the 2025 IPL season and is waiting for his opportunity this time around.
Suryansh Shedge: An outstanding lower-order batter who can contribute with the ball, Suryansh Shedge bats at a strike-rate of 181.65 in his T20 career.
Predicted Impact Players for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Eshan Malinga: With SRH opting to play with three overseas batters in their playing XI, Eshan Malinga can be used as an Impact Sub while they defend a total. He has taken three wickets from three games this season.
David Payne: Yet another fast-bowling overseas option, David Payne is a veteran of T20 cricket, with 306 T20 wickets to his name. He took two wickets against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening game of the 2026 season.
Salil Arora: Salil Arora is another hard-hitting batter at SRH’s disposal, who can be used should they lose early wickets. In the most recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he batted at a strike-rate of 198.88.
Shivam Mavi: Shivam Mavi has 30 IPL wickets to his name, all taken for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He was picked up by SRH in the mini auction for INR 75 lakh.
Zeeshan Ansari: A spin-bowling option, Zeeshan Ansari played 10 matches for SRH last season, where he took six wickets.
Expert Opinion and Final Prediction
- Home advantage: PBKS have a good track record at the New Chandigarh stadium, winning their last game against the Gujarat Titans.
- Recent form: PBKS’ recent form is one of the best in the IPL, winning two games and having their third one rained out. SRH, meanwhile, have lost two out of their last three but have beaten Punjab in each of their last four meetings.
- Balanced side: PBKS’ side is slightly more balanced than SRH, with the visitors lacking a little firepower in bowling while missing their captain Pat Cummins.
- Prediction: With these factors in their favour, expect the Punjab Kings to continue with their unbeaten start to the 2026 season at the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s expense.
