The formation of SRH in itself was unexpected. Deccan Chargers, one of the original franchises in the IPL, could not sustain themselves after the first five seasons. Despite winning the second season of the league, the owners of Deccan Chargers ended up selling their franchise to the ‘Sun Network’, a South Indian broadcasting company. That was how ‘Sunrisers Hyderabad’ emerged. Since 2013, SRH has provided memorable experiences in the IPL.

While SRH did not have a good first season, the second half of the 2010s saw them reach their peak where they made it to the playoffs more often than not. In one of those seasons (2016), SRH won the trophy for the first time. In one other season (2018), SRH entered the final but lost to CSK. The fans have stood by the franchise through thick and thin and the love of the fans for the jersey is not new.

Let’s take a look at how SRH's jersey has evolved over the years in the Indian Premier League:

2013

The 2013 SRH jersey was very unique that no other team tried a similar combination in the later years, not even SRH themselves. The basic colour combination was grey. However, the secondary colour has stood out over the years over the primary colour.

While grey was the dominant colour of the jersey, orange acted as the key one. In addition to it, SRH got the logo of a phoenix almost as if rising through the ashes indicating the birth of new era in the IPL. It was loved a lot by the fans. At the top left of the jersey, the logo of SRH was placed.

2014

While SRH had a great jersey in IPL 2013, it seemed like they were ready to get away with it in the 2014 edition. The team had a totally different jersey for IPL 2014. The new theme had orange as the key colour of the jersey. The secondary colours were yellow and black, which were used on either side of the collar and sleeves respectively.

While yellow was used as a thick strap on either side of the colour, black was used on either side of the sleeves. SRH got the logo of their sponsor ‘WHSmith’ in the middle of the jersey. There was no change in the positioning of the team logo, which remained at the top left of the jersey. Though 2014 was not great for SRH, it was the start of a new beginning.

2015 did not have many changes. They retained the colour pallet with the same basic and secondary colour patterns. While orange remained the basic colour, yellow and black acted as the secondary colours which were used on either side of the collar and the sleeves respectively. There was no change in the placing of the team and sponsor logos either.

The only change in their jersey was observed in the sponsors. While ‘WHSmith’ was the sponsor in the 2014 edition, they were replaced by ‘Red FM 93.5’ as the chief sponsor in the 2015 edition. The logo of the new sponsors was placed in the middle of the jersey. 2015 was a good season for SRH, as they qualified for the playoffs and impressed the fans.

2016

2016 was special for SRH due to many reasons. Their key players were in form and performed when it mattered the most. David Warner scored 848 runs and helped SRH to win the title with his batting and captaincy. Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the Purple Cap and Mustafizur Rahman emerged as the emerging player of the season. It was a perfect season for SRH.

While the trophy was the cherry on the top, the fans remember the jersey as sweet memory that takes them back to the good old days. There were no major changes in the jersey. The one which were there were only in the regard of the sponsor and the co-sponsor. While ‘Ultratech cement’ acted as the sponsor, ‘Red FM 93.5’ acted as the co-sponsors, whose logos were placed in the middle and the top right of the jersey respectively.

2017 was another good season for SRH. David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the Orange and Purple Caps respectively, for their side. The South Indian franchise made it to the playoffs but lost in the Eliminator clash to KKR. Much like 2016, there was no major change in the jersey in the 2017 edition of the IPL.

It seemed like SRH wanted to continue with the winning momentum even in terms of the jersey. The only change was the removal of the logo of the co-sponsors at the top right. ‘Ultratech Cement’ continued to be the sponsors of SRH, whose logo was placed in the middle. There was no change in the colour pattern either.

2018

2018 was the second-best season for SRH in terms of the eventual result and the performances of the players. In the absence of David Warner, Kane Williamson stepped up as the captain and batter for SRH. The Hyderabad-based outfit finished as the runners-up and Williamson won the Orange Cap. It was also the season when Rashid Khan started to make huge strides as a performer in the IPL.

There was no major change in the jersey of SRH in the IPL 2018. The colour patterns remained the same with orange as the basic colour, while yellow and black remained the secondary colours. The only change was the sponsor. ‘Red FM 93.5’ returned as the official sponsor whose logo was placed in the middle of the jersey.

2019

In 2019, SRH witnessed the brilliance of the duo of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow with the bat and Rashid Khan with the ball. With some good performances from Manish Pandey and Khaleel Ahmed, SRH reached the Eliminator stage of the league. Meanwhile, their jersey did not have a major change.

The basic colour of the jersey continued to be orange. Yellow and black continued as the secondary colours on either side of the collar and sleeves of the jersey, respectively. The logo of SRH was placed on the top left of the jersey. The change was in the sponsors as ‘Coolwinks.com’ joined SRH as the sponsor for IPL 2019. The logo of the main sponsor was placed in the middle of the jersey.

2020

SRH did not have any major change in the jersey in IPL 2020. The only change was in the form of sponsor as ‘JK Lakshmi cement’ joined SRH as the official sponsor for IPL 2020. Their logo was placed in the middle of the jersey. On the other hand, SRH’s logo was placed on the top left of the jersey. Yellow and black continued to be the secondary colour patterns.

In 2020, SRH had a rollercoaster journey. After losing their way in the middle of the season, Warner and co made it to the playoffs with an incredible comeback. They beat RCB in the Eliminator but went down against Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2. T Natarajan was the breakthrough star of the season for SRH along with Jason Holder.

2021

2021 marked the beginning of a bad phase for SRH. It will be remembered for Warner’s ousting from SRH and everything changed for the franchise since then. SRH did not just fail to qualify for the playoffs of an IPL for the first time since 2015, but they ended the tournament at the last position in the points table, which frustrated the fans.

There was no change in the jersey. The 2016 champions hoped to replicate their past glory without changing the jersey. They continued with ‘JK Lakshmi Cement’ as their sponsor for IPL 2021. Their logo was placed in the middle of the jersey. On the other hand, SRH’s logo was placed in the top left area. Yellow and black continued to be the secondary colour patterns.

2022

In 2022, SRH had a major change in their jersey pattern. Over the years, lighter versions of orange remained to be their basic colour shade. However, In 2022, it changed to a darker version of orange. Their secondary color patterns changed from yellow and black to black alone. The entire area on either side of the collar and sleeves changed to black. There was a change in sponsors as well.

‘Cars 24.com’ joined SRH as the new sponsor for IPL 2022, replacing ‘JK Lakshmi Cement’. Their logo was placed in the middle of the jersey. On the other hand, SRH’s logo was cemented in the top left of the jersey. SRH’s performance in the 15th edition of the league was not great, as they finished in the 8th spot.

2023

2023 was not a good season for SRH. They ended the tournament at the last spot despite being touted as one of the favourites to win the league. The lack of contribution from the batters led to their downfall. They had a change in sponsors and co-sponsors as well. ‘Fan Craze’ joined SRH as the sponsor for IPL 2023 and ‘Kuhl stylish fans’ were the co-sponsors.

While the logo of the lead sponsor was placed in the middle, the co-sponsor's was placed on the top right of the jersey. The team logo was placed on the top left. The other sponsors and features were present in different parts of the jersey. The basic colour of SRH, being orange, had an enhanced version.

SRH took to their social media handles to announce the latest design of their jersey for IPL 2024. There is a major change in their jersey pattern for the 17th edition of the league. ‘Dream11’ is the official sponsor of SRH and ‘Kuhl Stylish Fans’ continue to be their co-sponsors. Their logos are placed in the middle and top right areas of the jersey, respectively. The major change is in the colour pattern.

While orange has remained their basic colour pattern over the years with a plain combination, the former IPL champions have gone with a different combination in 2024. They have a pattern similar to Sunrisers Eastern Cape's from SA20 2024, where the orange is in combination with black in a zig zag manner. ‘Play with Fire’ is the new tagline of SRH for IPL 2024.
