Maharashtra has served as a powerhouse of talent in cricket. There are plenty of facilities all across the state with several academies even at the grassroots level. The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Rohit Sharma, Vinod Kambli and Ajinkya Rahane, to name a few, have done wonders for India.

Maharashtra's biggest contribution to cricket has been Tendulkar. Even 12 years after his retirement, he remains the leading run-getter in international cricket. Tendulkar's idol, Gavaskar, also came up the ranks from Maharashtra. Indian skipper Rohit, now at the twilight of his career, has been a crucial part of the international setup for more than a decade.
