Hasmatullah Shahidi dedicates win to Afghan refugees
I would say both, we bowled well but the run-chase also. It's the third time we are achieving a target. Especially in this World Cup, we are looking at the target of the opposition. We are playing according to the situation and achieving for the team. He is a special player. Whenever the team needs him, he shows the way. We all are very united, we all are enjoying the wins and all of them are thinking about the team. We are trying our best to make it to the semi-finals. If we make it, it would be a big achievement for us. I lost my mother three months back, so my family is in pain, so it will be a big achievement for our country first and then for me also. There are a lot of refugee people in struggle, we all are watching their videos and we feel their pain. I dedicate this win for them.
Here's what the losing captain Scott Edwards had to say after the match
Definitely not ideal! Four run-outs from our top five batters. We started well but we lost our way. They have top-quality spinners and we couldn't recover. You can't really for the dew. We have done well batting first, a 280 sort of score would have been good even with dew around. We will have to regroup and bring ourselves back for the England game.

Mohammad Nabi adjudged POTM:
“Just focused on my line and length, focused on bowling dot balls. Always try to be consistent with my line and length and use my variations. Always stick to my plans and use the angles. Variations are more variable on some pitches and that’s why I get wickets. I always try to keep it tight and hence bowl with a good economy. Work on my fitness and my diet, still my body is going good and happy to play for Afghanistan,” Nabi said.

Here's what Mohammad Nabi said after the match
(On how well he is bowling) Just focussing on my lines and lengths. Focussing on dot balls. I always try to concentrate on my lines and lengths, and variations. I try to stick to my plans and use the angles. In some pitches, the variation is more, that is sometimes why I get more wickets. I focus on dot balls and that is how I control my economy rate. (On what keeps him going) Still working on my fitness, working on my rehab, proper diets. It is working (smiles).

The Netherlands (NED) face a crucial showdown with Afghanistan (AFG) in the 34th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 at Lucknow's Ekana Cricket Stadium, where they aim for a vital victory. Their prior appearance at this venue saw them posting an impressive 262-run total while batting first against Sri Lanka. Notably, they encountered a challenging situation with six wickets down for just 91 runs. Captain Scott Edwards is understandably concerned about their inconsistent batting performance, a pivotal aspect to address in preparation for this high-stakes match.
Afghanistan have demonstrated a commendable upswing in their batting prowess, showcasing steady improvement. Following a 149-run loss to New Zealand, they impressively chased down 283 runs against Pakistan and secured a convincing seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka, by chasing a target of 242 runs. As the two teams lock horns in a must-win encounter to remain in contention for the semi-finals, the Lucknow pitch presents an enticing prospect for the bowlers.
In Lucknow, the Netherlands confront a formidable test, given their previous batting struggles versus Australia at this venue. Consequently, it is imperative for the top four batters in the Dutch lineup to regain their touch and forge pivotal partnerships, laying the groundwork for a substantial total. Relying repeatedly on the lower-order saviours is not a sustainable strategy, and the top-order must step up to avoid such dependency.
Afghanistan will look to capitalise on the Lucknow conditions
Afghanistan are enjoying a stellar ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, notching wins against cricketing giants like England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, all previous champions. This remarkable streak marks their first-ever back-to-back victories in a World Cup. Notably, their batting prowess has been a standout feature. However, following their triumph over England, they faced a formidable defeat at the hands of New Zealand, being dismissed for 139 runs while chasing a challenging target of 289.
With Ikram Alikhil nursing an injury from the previous game, the option of substituting him with Najibullah Zadran looms large for Afghanistan. To succeed in Lucknow, they must swiftly acclimate to the conditions, recognizing that batting won't come easy on this pitch. Recent matches have seen fast bowlers excel, making Fazhalhaq Farooqi, Naveen Ul Haq, and Omarzai pivotal figures with the ball, alongside their spinners, as they strive to maintain their competitive edge.
