Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has explained his reasons for not playing in the IPL 2026. Zampa was not present in the 2026 mini-auction after being released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who signed him for INR 2.60 crore

He has represented four franchises in the IPL - the Rising Pune Supergiants (now defunct), Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, across six seasons where he has appeared. He has 31 wickets in 22 games, with best figures of 6/19 coming in his debut season, in 2016.

Zampa stated that he pulled out from the IPL because he believes he will not get fair remuneration for his skill set ahead of players with other skill sets.

"I pulled out of the IPL this year. To be brutally honest, for someone with my skill set, I just don’t get the money that is there for other skill sets. And for the amount of time that the IPL takes, it just didn’t seem like a reasonable choice for me to keep playing it,” Zampa said on the ARY Podcast.

Zampa is currently playing his trade in the Pakistan Super League for Karachi Kings under the leadership of compatriot David Warner. He was signed for a fee of PKR 4.5 crore, which amounts to roughly around INR 1.51 crore. Zampa has picked up three wickets in the two games at an economy rate of 4.62.

He further stated that the decision to play in the PSL came about suddenly, when he was supposed to be on a break. The 34-year-old also stated that he has been enjoying his time in the IPL.

“I was going to have a break, but PSL was on the radar about a month ago. It all happened pretty quickly, but I’m enjoying it,” Zampa added.

Zampa has the most wickets for Australia in T20 cricket, with 147 scalps in 115 games.
