Former India opener Wasim Jaffer heaped praise on Arshdeep Singh for his phenomenal display of bowling with the new ball in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. The left-arm-seamer swung the ball both ways and has got rid of three big fishes already in the tournament in the form of Babar Azam, Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw. The youngster yet again impressed with the new ball against South Africa in a low-scoring game and finished with 2 for 25 in his four overs.

Although India ended up on the losing side against the Proteas, it was Arshdeep’s spell upfront which kept India’s hopes alive. He used the short ball quite well and so far, has been India’s best bowler on display in the tournament without a doubt. The 23-year-old made it tough for the Proteas with some tight overs at the death too, to complete a remarkable performance.

We haven’t found a left-arm seamer after Zaheer Khan: Wasim Jaffer

Jaffer felt that Arshdeep’s new ball abilities is a major positive going forward in the tournament and noted the luxury of having a left-arm seamer in the side. He went on to mention the examples of Trent Boult and Mohammad Amir who have had enormous success with the ability to bring the ball back into the right-hander. He concluded that Arshdeep could emulate what legendary bowler Zaheer Khan provided during his time in Indian colours.

“Arshdeep is a big positive with the new ball. He did well against Pakistan and today he did a good job once again. One big advantage is him being a left-arm seamer and he creates a different angle. Also, he swings it both ways and left-arm seamers, when they bring the ball back into the right-hander become more efficient like a Trent Boult or Mohammad Amir,” Wasim Jaffer told while speaking on BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker.

“Arshdeep with his abilities to bowl both, outswingers and inswingers has created confusions. He has bowled excellent lengths, and he is a great positive for India. We haven’t found a left arm seamer after Zaheer Khan and the way Arshdeep is taking wickets with the new ball is great moving forward and for the future,” he added.
