Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 11 runs in a low-scoring thriller on Thursday, September 25, to make it to the finals of the 2025 Asia Cup. Fans flocked to the Dubai International Cricket Stadium to watch what was a virtual semi-final clash in the Super Fours. They won't be disappointed, as they saw two teams fighting tooth and nail for a spot in the final.

Stand-in captain Jaker Ali won the toss and opted to field first. Pakistan got off to a disappointing start, losing Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub in the first couple of overs. The Men in Green could add only 27 runs inside the powerplay.

Salman Ali Agha and Fakhar Zaman tried to resurrect the ship, but the latter was dismissed just after the powerplay. Hussain Talat and Agha departed in quick succession as Pakistan slumped to 49/5 inside 11 overs. Shaheen Afridi was promoted up the order to No. 7, and he hit a breezy 19 off 13 balls, being dropped twice in his innings.

Mohammad Nawaz joined forces with Mohammad Haris, and the duo added a crucial 38-run stand off 24 balls to give the Pakistan innings some much-needed impetus. In the end, Pakistan ended at 135/8 in 20 overs.

Bangladesh would have fancied their chances of chasing it down, despite the sluggish nature of the surface. However, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf bowled superbly with the new ball and took three wickets inside the powerplay.

Wickets kept falling at regular intervals as Pakistan stifled Bangladesh through the middle overs, with Saim Ayub and Mohammad Nawaz bowling fantastic spells. Haris Rauf also bowled with a lot of heart as Bangladesh lost nine wickets for 101 runs in 17.4 overs. Rishad Hossain hit a few boundaries towards the backend of the innings, but he was left with too much work to do. Bangladesh finished at 124/9 to crash out of the competition.

Key moments from PAK vs BAN, Super Four, Match 17 of Asia Cup 2025:

1. Shaheen Afridi steps up under pressure with all-round exploits

Shaheen was promoted ahead of Mohammad Nawaz, and he batted with a fearless approach. His 19-run knock off just 13 balls comprised two sixes. This knock injected some momentum into the Pakistan innings. With the ball, Shaheen bagged two important wickets with the new ball and returned at the backend to dismiss the dangerous Shamim Hossain with a back-of-the-hand slower delivery. The left-arm seamer finished with excellent figures of 3/17 in four overs.

These two sixes by Shaheen Afridi are worth more than Salman Agha's T20 career.
