Indian team set a big 513-run target after declaring their second innings on 258/2 on Day 3 of the first Test match against Bangladesh on Friday (December 16). Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara scored centuries as Indian side dominated the third day completely. However, they got advantage by the lack of bowling attack options from the hosts in the second innings due to injury issuies.

Captain Shakib Al Hasan, who bowled only 12 overs in the first innings, did not bowl in the second innings at all. The in-form pacer Ebadot Hossain also failed to bowl in the second innings which forced Bangladesh to turn to Litton Das, Yasir Ali, and Najmul Shanto in second innings.

After the end of Day 1, the Bangladeshi bowling coach, Rangana Herath confirmed that Shakib is carrying shoulder pain but seemed optimistic about bowling in the second innings. Mehidy Hasan confirmed that the shoulder pain was the reason behind the captain's absence while bowling in India's second innings and they certainly missed him.

"Certainly we missed him (Shakib in the bowling attack) and he did not bowl because he was having pain. It's difficult to bowl when you have pain. He tried a couple of overs in the first innings," Mehidy told Cricbuzz after the end of Day 3.

Mehidy also provided an update on the absence of Ebadot in the second innings. He revealed that the pacer could not bowl due to side strain but it's not a major injury.

"He was in a bit of pain. But it's not a major injury. Obviously, every moment in a Test match is challenging and bowlers have to bowl for a long time. If you look at Taijul bhai, he bowled really well in first innings. In the second innings, they were playing for runs. It was a challenge for bowlers on this sort of wicket. We were down by a bowler since Ebadot was injured," Mehidy said about Ebadot's absence.
