Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam stated on Wednesday, December 31, that a member of the Noakhali Express team management has come under the scrutiny of the BCB’s Integrity Unit. The development followed a report that raised questions over the identity and credentials of Noakhali Express assistant coach Niaz Khan.

According to the report, Niaz claimed to have worked with the Afghanistan national team during the Asia Cup. However, when the matter was referred for verification, officials from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) categorically denied any association with him, prompting further investigation by the BCB.

"They (BCB integrity Unit) is well aware about the development (regarding the news of Noakhali Express assistant coach) and working on it. It's confidential so I cannot disclose much but they (BCB integrity Unit) is well aware about this (regarding the movement of Niaz)," said Aminul as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Mahin M Rahman, counsel to the BCB’s Integrity Unit and head of its legal team, confirmed that Niaz is currently under ongoing investigation.

"I got confirmation from my head (Alex Marshall) that this (movement of Niaz) is already under a live investigation. Yes, I know that (Niaz was with Dhaka Capitals) and there are some more connections here as well," said Mahin.

The BCB’s official confirmation came hours after Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Governing Council member secretary Iftekhar Rahman stated at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium that the authorities are not prepared to compromise on integrity issues under any circumstances.

"We take every issue very seriously. That is why we have put pressure on teams on two clear points as player payments must be made and that integrity must be maintained," said Iftekhar.

"Because of that zero tolerance, you are seeing things like teams withdrawing even after being awarded a franchise. That has been painful for us. We have an independent committee headed by Alex Marshall and Instructions have gone from us to many teams that certain people cannot stay with," he added.
