Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Rashid Latif has said that the Indian team should focus on collective achievements instead of celebrating individual milestones. His remarks came while analysing whether Virat Kohli can break Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 centuries record after the former notched up his 72nd international ton against Bangladesh at Chattogram on Saturday, December 10.

Latif said that India should rather focus on adding ICC titles to their cabinet as they have squandered many chances in the past few years, including the Champions Trophy 2017, 50-overs World Cup in 2019 and 2021 as well as the 2022 editions of the T20 World Cup.

It has been years since India won a trophy: Rashid Latif

“It is not the time to count the number of centuries. It doesn't matter. They need to win a title. It has been years since India won a trophy. Whether Kohli scores 100 centuries or 200, it doesn't matter, what matters to Indian cricket and the fans is a title," said Rashid Latif while speaking on his YouTube channel.

"If you look financially, IPL and Indian cricket are far ahead, but now there is pressure from the fans and the media that they want a title. Kohli can score 100 centuries if he wants, but the demand has changed. The Asia Cup is gone, so is Champions Trophy, the 2019 World Cup, the last two T20 World Cups. 100 centuries has its own place, but India and the Indian cricket board needs to win a title,” he added.

India are yet to win a major ICC tournament since the 2013 Champions Trophy in England & Wales. After that, the Men in Blue did succeed in making the semi-finals and finals of ICC tournaments but have run out of fire and brimstone during crunch situations in knockout clashes.

Their latest setback happened to be last month, when the Indian team bowed out of the T20 World Cup in Australia with a humiliating 10-wicket hammering against the eventual champions England after finishing as their group toppers in the league stage..
