Riyan Parag has had his struggles with shoulder issues in recent months. However, he made his comeback during the Duleep Trophy encounter between East Zone and North Zone in Bengaluru last week.

The talented all-rounder led East Zone in the clash. However, the former champions lost on first-innings lead. Parag showed glimpses of his exemplary skills, scoring a fluent 39 and picking up a wicket.

The 23-year-old said that his focus was on enjoying his time in the middle on his return to competitive cricket, instead of worrying about how he fared in the match.

"The match felt good. That was the main goal when I came here—to play the game again. Performances weren't my main focus. I just wanted to have some fun. I haven't played competitive cricket in a long time," Parag told reporters after East Zone's loss on first-innings lead.

His IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) are expected to go for an overhaul after finishing ninth last season. Head coach Rahul Dravid has already stepped down, while reports suggest that captain Sanju Samson will be traded to some other team or get released ahead of the auction. However, Parag is unwilling to focus on the uncertainties at the moment, as he looks to bide his time en route an India comeback.

"Of course, I want to get back to the Indian team, but I'm not in a hurry. I'm taking it step by step. For me, enjoying cricket again was the most important thing. Whatever happens in the IPL, I'll take it as it comes. Right now, my job is to stay fit, keep scoring runs, and bowl when needed. Rest will follow naturally," he added.

Parag has played one ODI and nine T20Is so far. He missed out on a spot in India's Asia Cup squad, which was announced last month.

"Runs, wickets, and fitness — that's my focus. Rest will happen when it has to," the charismatic Assam captain stated.
